I know, I guess I'm just seeing the bad in things a lot, plus I know my brother's predilection for "one-upmanship"

That, my friend, is what brothers do, especially when they look up to you.

Well my force connection must be off, cos' I have never seen him "look up" to me. He's competed, sure, tried always to be better than me, faster, stronger, more flexible, more crafty, and in most of that he's succeeded. Of the two of us, "I" am the failure. Sad

Gah! I go to run up to the store today and I go down the stairs. On the outside door of my apartment is a note from Fed Ex saying that they had a delivery for me and I missed it. It was my two grab bag sabers! They didn't knock or even call! Kriffing losers! Now I have to wait until tomorrow to find out what I got! And to make matters worse, I stubbed my toe... Bloody hell...

Are you... are you... you have got to be...

No. Just no. What in the name of...

That dog just...

I seriously feel like part of me just died there while watching this.

What the hell is wrong with people?

I'm going to go hold my dog close and never let him go. This is just way too much.

Feeling a bit down.... Wife and the kids came home sunday after visiting family for a week in NC. While I was making dinner last night, my youngest comes running into the kitchen and grabs my leg in a hug (his newest game). That's all good, but the timing couldn't have been worse, since I was in the middle of picking up a pan and turning. So I got to make the decision, hot oil on the baby or me? Really not much of a decision. So my right hand is pretty much out of commision at least until the blisters heal up in a week (yay for quick healing!). And to make things worse, whenever he sees my hand, or sees that it is hurting (all the time) he starts getting his "sad face".... Did I mention it's also his first birthday in two days?

You focus inward a lot. Maybe in his mind he wishes he had your strength, or that he could be secure enough to be open about his hobbies. Maybe in his mind he thinks he has something to prove to you.

I understand where you're coming from on this, but at the same time, I understand why the officer did what he did. The dog was a Rottweiler, a breed known to be vicious when they or their master are threatened. The dog escaped confinement and came at the officers, and the officers responded by first going on guard in case the dog wasn't a real threat. It wasn't until the dog snapped at and tried to bite the officer that he shot it. A Rottweiler can exert as much as 330 pounds of pressure with a bite, which is more than enough to cause serious injury to a person.

It's a tragedy, yes, but an unavoidable one. The officer definitely saved himself a good trip to the hospital, and possibly saved himself a trip to the morgue. Additionally, any way you look at it, that dog was going to die. When a "vicious breed" dog attacks a human, that dog will get put down, as it will have acquired a taste for blood and will no longer be safe around people.

He did what was needed. He did not fire until the dog snapped at him. It doesn't matter what state, if a potentially dangerous dog attacks, it will be put down. It attacked an officer. If the officer hadn't shot it, it would have been taken to the pound and put down anyway.
Sad that it happened, but I blame the owner here. You can clearly see him taunting the officers. If he hadn't, then they wouldn't have tried to arrest him and the dog would never have thought that its owner needed protecting.

I'm a bit confused as to why they were arresting the owner in the first place. He didn't appear to be doing anything wrong, though the audio wasn't very good, so it could have been something he said.

What I meant was that I already knew what the outcome would be, yet I watched the video anyway. Seeing the dog twitching around after that was just... ugh.

They could have tasered the dog. Shooting first and asking questions later was not the right thing to do. Or, they could have let the man escort the dog back into the house. It's not like he was resisting arrest or anything. This cop just had an itchy trigger finger. This could have all been prevented, but it wasn't. Yeah, sure, blame it on the owner, but he wasn't the one who shot the dog.
