The trailer makes this movie look like less of a comic book movie, and more like an Oscar contender; something along the lines of Road to Perdition.

The trailer makes this movie look like less of a comic book movie, and more like an Oscar contender; something along the lines of Road to Perdition.
It's definitely different and I really like that. To me it felt a lot like a Western, with HELL OR HIGH WATER and UNFORGIVEN specifically coming to my mind. From research, it looks like this will take place after the end of DAYS OF FUTURE PAST with mutants being almost extinct. A common thread running through HELL OR HIGH WATER and UNFORGIVEN is taking a look to the past. In the case of HELL OR HIGH WATER, it's for a simple, idealized image of the American West. In UNFORGIVEN: a man plagued with past regrets. With Logan and Xavier being near the ends of their natural lives it seems that this idea of reflection, both in yearning for past glory and being anguished by mistakes, is very appropriate for this movie. Looks like we may have an Oscar-contending comic book western on our hands.  Also:    |

It was heavily inspired by Unforgiven. Well they have to do it. It's not like he's doing it on his own...

Have you read Old Man Logan (2008)? The Story they are using as a basis for this film. It was heavily inspired by Unforgiven.
I have not! I'm not the biggest fan of Mark Millar's work so I've avoided most of his output (the movie adaptations tend to be pretty good though), but knowing that UNFORGIVEN was indeed an inspiration is awesome! |

I am SUPER excited about this movie. Wolverine and Charles are two of my favorite characters ever. It looks heavy on the plot, too. That's totally my jam.
