No, no broke fingers! I always offer hand protection though. The staff is a true test of one's defense in the hands of a capable wielder. My friend and I duel so much that we have worked out a lot of the ways to avoid damage to the hand, knuckles and fingers. I taught him about the target zones of lightsaber combat and we base much of our duels in that way.
Now it is a totally different story when going against what I call a "Baseball bat duelist" where the attacks are often repeated horizantal slashes meant to take your head or arms off(which is mostly where these strikes are trying to land) -such as with the red saber in the video below -due to a lack of skill in most cases; then the knuckles get a little bent out of shape, and it hurts:P. These battles were the first I had in a long time so I was still trying to figure some techniques out. This was about a year ago.
