Title: what style of lightsaber would you like to see in the future?
Post by: grave13 on September 11, 2011, 11:46:29 AM
OK everyone I know everyone has a fan favorite lightsaber. My question is what style lightsaber would you like to see in the future? I myself would love to see a obi wan or Yoda mock up on a saber. But I know there are some others. Who would like to see a mace windu style saber. What's your thoughts?

I've always been a fan of the curved hilt but what I'd really like to see is a staff saber with all of the higher end options available to it. I'd also like to see a design similar to Palpatine's saber.

I myself have always been a fan of the double blade saber. It fits my style of weapon . And that ties closely with staff fighting. I would like to see more double blade sabers that come with all the goodies that this site has to offer. I know they will more than likely cost more but I don't care. I see the quality of craftsmanship put into all the sabers here on this site and I know it will be well worth it.

Or I would be Uber happy if this site would offer some old sabers like the nihilus "I would love to have this for a sith saber" or the overlord. My favorite old sabers.

I know it'd be expensive, but I'd like to see some ancient sabers, with an organic feel to them.

I second the Palpatine style saber. I would also like to see a rounded emitter version of the Standard Issue sabers instead of the slanted emitter. I also like the Mace Windu style saber idea, but which version?

Quinlan Vos

Preferably with interchangeable leds so you can throw down the Jedi green or his Dark Side turn red.

I Love QV!

It looks a lot like Master Kenobi's saber from EPI but longer.

A return of the Imperial Knight saber. If Ultra were to ever release it again, I'd also love to see a LE version with a reverse color scheme. Black with silver accents.

Second that, curved hilt is what I would like.  Apart from that, you got a good idea with the QV hilt, though it may be a little too similar to the Consular.

These are some awesome ideas guys. I second the tonfas. Ever since I played the first force unleashed game I was so drawn to Maris broods tonfas. It was something new to me and it was awesome to see that it is effective in combat.

If Ultra could do a Quinlan Vos Style (look alike) as they did with the Counselor as to the Qui Gon, THAT WOULD BE EPIC!!!

I am in Absolute Agreement, That I Would Love To See This Saber Made  ;D  ;D  ;D!!!

Actually, the quinlan vos saber could probably be done as an expansion shroud for the Consular.

Add that to the list:  Extra shrouds for Consular.

Right. But the pommel is different. Oh, well, I imagine we can swap it with a different TCSS pommel.  ::)

Crossguard as i have said in my other post in off topic stuff

and definitely Imperial Knight saber.  Seems to be the one everyone wants! So COME ON ULTRA!  give the masses the Imperial Knight Back!

For future reference, taunting and begging Ultra have never worked and never will.  He is a man with a plan and trust me, that plan involves Awesomeness.  If he deems it a worthy thing he'll give us an Imperial Knight saber, probably with a new twist.  One thing Ultra is smart about is not just doing the same thing over and over, he always improves his designs.  Patience, young ones!  :P

It'd be fun to have a pike/spear/yari (whatever) extender that'd screw on between the saber and the pommel. Maybe a 24"-36" or so pole with male & female threading.

*cough*baskethilt*cough*

Seriously, a good old fashioned Musketeer saber would ROCK. If done right, you could even make it some sort of MHS style attachment (IE slide over the emitter screw into the pommel or something) and it would probably be relatively simple to make interchangeable badges (like the crosses on the Musketeer swords) so one could put, say, letters of aurabesh, or a cross, or a starbird, imperial cog, sunburst, or whatever on there. That would rock....

YES YES YES!!!  Fencer here seconding this idea!  For me a simple hand guard would suffice, smallsword style.

Actually, I could probably make a decent basket hilt out of heavy-gauge wire for a Dominix, given time.  The biggest problem would be it might have tendency to rotate on the hilt, as there aren't any solid anchor points aside from the switch.  I will have to contemplate this...

Title: Re: what style of lightsaber would you like to see in the future?
Post by: Manroon on September 14, 2011, 06:33:17 PM
I was planning to do this with a PVC test build in my garage, but the more I think about it the more I want to throw it on my Proph instead. I think if I can find appropriate wire to use, I'll test it out on the PVC hilt and then take a go for real on my Proph. Lemme know if you have any good suggestions for wire to use, Kaiden! I'd appreciate it! :)

Title: Re: what style of lightsaber would you like to see in the future?
Post by: Kaiden Shardsbane on September 14, 2011, 08:08:15 PM
I'd use a heavy wire... 18 to 16 gauge.  Hardware stores would probably have a wire that won't lose it's shape too badly.  If you're willing to put up with some frustrating muscle-work, a wire clothes hanger will give you a practically indestructible base to make the rest of your basket hilt from.

Basically the thing you'll have to remember is that the tougher the wire, the more work you'll have to put into shaping it.  If you use a heavy wire like the clothes hanger, it'll hold it's shape even in a heavy duel, but it'll be a bitch to get it into that shape in the first place.  A softer wire, like the 16-18 gauge you'd find in a hardware store, will take a shape fairly well, but it'll also lose that shape just as fast.

EDIT:  You could even use some 20-22 gauge wire for some fine details.  But be prepared for them to get bent out of shape fairly often if you duel with it.

Post by: Manroon on September 14, 2011, 08:43:09 PM
Thanks for the tips! I owe you one! :) A wire coathanger will be no problem, I can get that easy and I don't mind the muscle work if the payoff is that it'll more or less hold it's shape after a hit or two. It sounds like the 16-18 gauge would be good for some mid-level details, would that be right? Nothing real complex, but just to help fill in the space between the coat hanger and make it all look nice and even. Also, would you have any tips on how to attach it to the hilt? Just thought I'd ask while I'm pumping you for tips. lol Bare in mind, mine is a CE so it's nickle plated. Though I MAY eventually buy a standard Proph and do it to that if it would be easier, it's just that the CE has already been modded for Econo sound and rebuilt so I figure what the heck. :)

Attaching it to a Prophecy... let me look at some pics of it...

I would wrap the wire around the covertech knob, using about a quarter- to a half inch more than you would need to complete the circle.  overlap the leftover wires and wrap it around itself to solidify the anchor.  Then form your basket guard, arching it up to the decorative knob at the emitter.  Attach it in the same manner that you attached the beginning to the covertech.  Make sure you attach it to the decorative knob, not the retention screw knob.

If I'm estimating the length right, you should have enough wire left to make another arch back towards the pommel of the saber.  Here you'll have a couple of options.  You could make two arches, for more of a "basket" design, with the smaller wire stretching between them.  Or you could make it near your original arch --even wrap it around the first one-- to make a single "spine" and then take the smaller wires out from there.

What you do with the smaller wires is up to you.  Make whatever designs you want.  Oh!  One other thing-- you can wrap smaller wires together to make more of the stronger "spines" if you need to.

Thanks! I'll remember all that! :) I'll have to get a little creative, as I replaced my covertec with a smaller Krussel knob, but I think I know how to make it work. ;) Maybe I'll hit up the hardware store tonight and see if I can get to work on this!

I agree on having all one color. I think Pyrestone or Fire orange would look awesome. Sun Rider's Destiny would be good if you're going for a Poseidon look. I wonder how it would be lit. 3 seperate LEDs or would it work with one somehow?

I would like a little bit more variation from the normal...

Something like a double blade, but at a 90 degree angle instead 180. Or a 4 prong lightsaber, like a shuriken.

Or some sort of brass knuckles lightsaber-type thing?

I would love to see a Yun lightsaber from Dark Forces II Jedi Knight. I know that some people have already built one but they are custom made. I wish Ultrasabers would release something like that. The custom built ones, when they do sell, go for around $350.

Watch out what kind of posts you make regarding other saber companies.

Don't want to promote competition.

At this point, I don't think it's a lightsaber anymore, my friend. I wouldn't go to a place called "Ultrasabers" for LED brass knuckles or shuriken. The There are plenty of saber designs that haven't been done yet, so have faith. I've never been more excited for the future of this company. They've shown a ton of growth over the past year... Good things are coming.

I personally would like to see similar designs to the clan sabers. Ultra and Deep did an amazing job with the Shock. It bears a resemblance to the clan saber used by Shaak Ti (probably where they got the name) and Adi Gallia, Bariss Offee, etc., while still remaining a unique design to Ultrasabers. If they released something that resembled the Eeth Koth/Kit fisto saber, I would be very happy. The clan sabers are sparse and utilitarian, which is perfect for the stoic knights that wield them. It's one of the reasons I like the sabers Ultra and Deep come up with.

example Eeth Koth: http://tridity.org/~achernak/Prop%20and%20Model%20Stuff/Props/Lightsabers/Prequel%20Sabers/Kit%20Fisto/Kit%20Fisto%202.jpeg (http://tridity.org/~achernak/Prop%20and%20Model%20Stuff/Props/Lightsabers/Prequel%20Sabers/Kit%20Fisto/Kit%20Fisto%202.jpeg)

Plo Koon/Luminara:

example: http://tridity.org/~achernak/Prop%20and%20Model%20Stuff/Props/Lightsabers/Prequel%20Sabers/Luminara/Luminara%20Unduli.jpeg (http://tridity.org/~achernak/Prop%20and%20Model%20Stuff/Props/Lightsabers/Prequel%20Sabers/Luminara/Luminara%20Unduli.jpeg)

I could argue for a Ki Adi Mundi Lightsaber, but the Archon V2 has a lovely silhouette that hits pretty close to the mark. Two down, two to go!

 (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20060729153231/starwars/images/thumb/9/94/Ryykblade_negwt.jpg/324px-Ryykblade_negwt.jpg) (http://starwars.wikia.com/index.php?title=Ryyk_kerarthorr&image=Ryykblade_negwt-jpg)

And if they could be outfitted with vibrators, then we could say that they are vibro blade variants of these blades.

As for the fencing sword, that would be cool, as long as the hilt is curved. That way, the style of fighting used for that style of hilt is authentic to SW (Form II), and is more of a, for lack of better words "fencing style of fighting".

Also, I did think of a double bladed saber with a transparent hilt (in the middle) that shows the crystal core.

Haha nice.  Artorius and I had a serious plan to make a three-sectional staff with sabers at one point.  We were gonna use two initiates for the end sections, with PVC for the center section.

Kinda like Ikkaku here, but with blades on both ends?

Yeah pretty much!  Except being Initiate sabers, only like a quarter of the section would be handle - the rest would be blade.  Naturally, this makes for an impractical and dangerous weapon haha.

I could be wrong, but the Bane is something like, 14.5" long.

1:Buy a dominix.
2:Buy another Dominix
3:Remove blade from one Dominix
4:Attach dominixes together

Yea I'm still in favor of a tonfa saber or curved hilt saber.

Cheaper idea that I've been thinking about:

1:Buy a dominix.
2:Buy an empty Dominix hilt from the "build your own" section.
3:Attach dominixes together
5:(Optional) Add a 1 inch diameter metal pipe where the blade would go on the empty dominix.  You now have a Force Pike.

Here is one I haven't seen up here and I know some people that would really want it.

Darth Malgus

I like the Blade type look on the emitter, gives it a real bladed weapon look.

Agreed, that would be cheaper. But it'd also be pretty cool to spin it around and surprise your foe with a flash from the other hilt.

My buddy is nuts... he's making a dual set with a chain connector linking the hilts.

I can't wait until he finishes this one, to see what it looks like when it's all said and done.

Not a lightsaber per say, but I think it would be interesting to see a replica of the training sabers in the Old Republic MMO. The swords you get before you put together your lightsaber, if your a force user.

MHZ compatible curved hilt that's simple but effective. Plus, if it was MHS compatible you could combine two and get a curved saberstaff

THAT I would want. Heres why: Hook your two curved hilts together, get em to line up on the same side IE so it's sort of U shaped. Then put in a pair of Initiate blades and..... LIGHT BAT'LETH! ! ! !  8) No, seriously, I would buy that....

Below is an add from another site that is selling Hasbro Asajj Ventress light sabers, they are sold out, but check the remarks that I have bolded the print.  But I'll wait for US to come out with one cause it would be way better!

Sold Out!
This is an official replica of the lightsaber used by Asajj Ventress in Star Wars: The Clone Wars™. The glowing, bright red blade ignites with realistic power-up and power-down light effects. The authentic  lightsaber sound effects have been digitally recorded from the movie with four motion sensor controlled sounds: power-up, idle hum, clash & power-down. The durable hilt looks and feels like a real lightsaber and the sturdy blade has been permanently attached to the hilt.  Includes a specially designed display base and adaptor so it can be combined with another Asajj Ventress lghtsaber (sold separately) to create a double bladed force lightsaber.  Requires 3 “AAA” batteries (not included).

Was you trying to shorten a blade?

Seems like the entire hilt length for a dagger would probably only be about 6 inches in length, small in diameter...I wonder if they could get all the parts for the lighting in that small of space.  Obviously it would be a non-sound hilt.  Of course they do make flashlights that small.

@ DJ: Thanks for posting those pics.  It doesn't look anything like I would have expected it to look like.  It doesn't even look round or oblong shaped to fit the saber hilts.  Like I said, I'll wait till US creates one.

All I know is, I'd drop money on it immediately if Ultrasabers came out with a curved hilt saber of some variety. Heck I know if they did that I'd almost have to get one immediately, knowing that tons of other people on this site would try to snap one up immediately too.

I guess one of the other types I'd like to see is a Rahm Kota style one, or at least one with the kind of grooves appropriate to put in a katana-esque rapping on it. I know saber forge has one like that, but honestly I'm very dubious as to if their models can withstand the kind of punishment I put my ultrasabers through. Ultrasabers rocks! *clears throat* ok I think that plug counteracted me mentioning another place.

But yeah, definitely curved sabers are required in the future. in my opinion those are the most radically different types of sabers out there, even if they were designed almost specifically for form II. god knows I'd have to get two of them and lock em together.

With such high demand and forum members pleas for a curved hilt saber you would think that one would be available soon. I know I'd be on that band wagon too. Something is just really classy with a curved hilt saber. Its definitely in high demand from what I've seen on this forum

I want to see a Katarn or Revan style hilt. The Arbiter was pretty close to a Katarn to me, so maybe there could be an Arbiter V2? I really like long, two-handed sabers that have traits similar to that of the Luke ROTJ. I also really like Revan's hilt because it's simple and straight. What I don't like about the new Dominix V3's is the fact thet they're not straight. Sometimes simplicity is just the best way to go!

I saw the one you mentioned and it really is beautiful the way he made the hilt look wrapped with the metal diamond pattern cut out. Maybe US could do something similar but have the "Tsuka" diamond pattern cut into a shroud like on the Consular. That could keep the cost down while still getting the desired look.

Loving these ideas guys!  Curved hilts and lightfoils sound sweeeeeet, they would suit me perfectly.  I also like the idea of a Rahm Kota one, his saber is actually one of my favorites.  Simple, but very elegant with the leather wrapping.

Big fan of Rham Kota myself. Was looking at the V3 standard issue and thought to myself leather wrap on this saber would look almost like Rham's saber

I second this. It was a very unique looking saber. If they made a new version of it with sound it would be epic. Its sad that I think it was on the list of sabers that wont make a comeback. Well from what I read. Who knows maybe US will make a new version of it

LIGHT SCYTHE!!  ;D ;D
And no i dont mean that sad excuse of attaching a normal saber perpendicular to a stick.
Maybe a nice long staff (nothing too intricate) with a curved end and skulls at the blade end of the staff.
Then the LED modules would shine into a polycarbonate scythe which somehow miracolously has the light bending properties of an ultraedge hence having a fully lit up scythe.
I.WOULD.BUY.THAT.IN.A.HEARTBEAT.  ;D ;D ;D
Skulls? Seriously?.....blegh.
I'm kinda sick of seeing skulls on EVERY scythe I see aNYWHERE on the internet.
I'd love a lightscythe, but I'd want it to be sort of...I dunno, tech-ish instead of gothic.
Anyway, I posted a video of a lightfoil earlier, but I guess someone didn't like it and it got removed.
Um, sorry bout that if it upset someone >_>

I want to see a twin-bladed saber (not a staff, but twin bladed), with either a permanent, fixed second blade, or a removable second blade that locks in in multiple places (making it sturdier.)
