Adapt.Improvise and Overcome

« on: July 06, 2020, 11:33:50 PM »

I was sitting here cleaning up my sabers after a work out and i spilt the staff ( quick coupler ) and an idea hit . setting up a quick coupler as an emitter to allow fast blade changes i rigged it up and it only diminishes the light a little bit and it looked cool, what is the general thoughts on this idea ?

While I do have one saber with a removable emitter, I do not have a quick-release coupler.  It seems we are at an impasse.

I've got both, but I'm at work right now, so I can't test this out either.
However I can visualize it. The female end of the QR coupler could be a decent emitter. It would look similar to the Dorinian emitter.
Not sure how well it would hold a blade though. Seems like it would just slip out

should not be hard  to drill and tap a retaining screw. if i had a saber with a removable emitter i would be digging out my tools, the idea of a quick change blade would be a nice option when going from a staff set up to a single saber

But if you drill a retention screw hole, what was the point?
I think want you could do instead is to insert the blade, than twist a few times and remove it.
Twisting it should leave a "ring" where the bearings are. Then you take a rounded file and create a groove in the blade for the bearings to hold.

Heck, the pressure from the three bearings might even do it.  I actually have a coupling, but no blad, as my saber hasn't shown up yet!  Smiley

Fine, when I get home from work, I'll dig out my QD coupler and see how it looks on my Archon v3.1.

given how much the quick release adapter is... wouldn't it be just about as good to get an actual MHS emitter to swap between?  (I'm doing that with the two claws on my Dominicide since I put a glaive emitter on the other end (with a blade plug)... one claw has a blade plug, the other has a 36" UEHG...  granted, undoing a MHS takes a little bit of time, but beats carrying/losing the wrench & retaining screw

I also bought a cheap 'flick to extend' blade (dollar store) to test it out, but the telescoping action was lacking (to say the least) as I ended up with a 6" when retracted blade that flicked out to 12"....  so shameful I didn't bother taking pictures so I can pretend it didn't happen.

best i could do at moment

a lathe or a 3d printed part for the blade itself could make this a viable option to switch out blades from heavy, to pixel etc, no tool needed

If you were to cut a groove into a heavy grade blade similar to the one on the male end of then qr coupler I don't see why it wouldn't work other than a slight decrease in durability. What you could do use a 3/4 inch blade like lightspeed saber dueling does with an adapter and that wouldn't effect durability. (lightspeed should be ok to mention since they're a dueling group not a saber company but sorry if they're not)
