Title: Ultrasabers Electrum Wind:Unboxing & Review
Post by: StoryDtechtive on September 22, 2018, 07:18:49 PM
This is my entry saber from the second summer raffle, and a real beauty in terms of design. One of my favorite lightsaber hilts—I hope you’ll enjoy admiring it as much as I do :)

Hey there SD! Congrats on the Electeum Wind, I really like it in SY!  I didn’t realize how large the kit was, pretty hefty. Great review once again, have a point

Thanks, Infinit01...what ended up getting left out was the overall length (smacks self in the head). It’s 13.5 inches. This actually helps, in my opinion, for a saber with a covertech wheel because it’s far enough down not to get in the way. Not having experience with a covertech, I wondered if I might have to take it off for spinning, but not a problem at all.

Great review. I like your choices, orange blade, red FoC and Lite sound. You've got to go with what works for you. Those tabs they put on the batteries seem to only be for Mystery Boxes. I've gotten 3 sound sabers from Ultrasabers and none of them have had that. That's because they build the sabers to order and ship them out. The batteries don't drain much by the time it gets to the buyer. Mystery Boxes, on the other hand, sit and wait for a buyer. So, the batteries could drain. The tab prevents that. Also, some of us just use a box cutter on our boxes instead of a katana, but to each their own. ;)

Lastly, orange isn't a Dark Side color. It's a color used by Jedi who prefer negotiation to fighting. Purple is the color that crosses over to the Dark Side. Jedi who use Purple sabers, which is a mix of blue and red, use both Light Side and Dark Side techniques. So, you're actually farther away from being Dark Side with orange than you would be if you had purple.

SFD is correct. Plo Kon was known to have an orange blade amongst other colors

Good to know.  I knew purple was an actual balance/blend color. I’ve seen unboxing vids where people said orange was a bit dark—it does go well with the black hilts—so I thought it was a part of the general consensus.

I actually think the orange blade accents to saber colors well that have and sort of gold and silver combo.

BTW, here’s a better pic to go with the link from above:

I haven't seen this saber in FO before.  I like the name you gave it, very fitting.

Thanks Edon. Like I said on the YT thread, my thoughts on this choice is that if the Mace Windu saber found it’s way into my hands, it would change color and become orange. It’s a color that seems to be more in alignment with my personal “force.”

Orange is a very misunderstood color. People think it's Sith-y because it's towards red, but that's not the case. There have been a number of EU Jedi who have wielded orange. Though, there have also been EU Sith who have wielded blue, so I don't think blade color is as important towards showing alignment as people think it is. There are a number of Sith in Knights of the Old Republic that come at you with purple blades.

Nice choice in the FO rather than the normal VA.
It's an excellent hilt either way

Thanks TJ. I was torn for a little about just going full movie mode and going with the VA blade. I do like the purple...but I kept getting pulled toward orange. And you just have to go with your gut—and very glad I did once I got it in hand.

Thanks for the video. I would choose purple one orange, but it isn't my saber! Great looking saber, congrats!

Gumby...I see you Gumby photo has orange as well  :D Orange is one of my favorite saber colors. I need to get a black saber with orange at some point. But lots of sabers in my future plans. Got a couple of others I want to try first.

Jaymes—thank you. It’s an awesome saber. Of course, I may be a little biased  ;D

Lol we are all a little biased lol

We all are, my Aeon V4 is by far my favorite original saber right next to the Dominix V4 of course, since they're twins.  So anything posted about those, I'm on it.

Once I get a few I’ll let you guys know if my favorites change up. There are so many hilts I like at this point, it would be easy to go crazy and buy a bunch. But since my budget can’t actually handle that, I will be moving forward with at least one more mystery box in about a month and another sound saber by Christmas.

And while I love the overall design of the Electrum Wind, my liberator is so light that it has become my main practice saber for spinning. I bought a 24 inch initiate blade for practicing indoors so I stop hitting things...LOL! But very anxious to see how some of the other hilts handle. I think that’s what the mystery box will be great for because I don’t need sound on all my stunt sabers.

I know the feeling, so many sabers, so little money...

SD, what color LED did you get on your libby?

I got a guardian blue with that one. Looks amazing with the regular mid-grade initiate blade. I’ll be investing in one of those in the 32 inch size soon for my electrum wind. I love the look of the ultras, but the brightness of the mid grade is sweet!

BTW, I’ve sketched out several designs for customizing my liberator and finally decided what I want to do with it. So that will be a future vid :)

Great!  I shall follow closely, it's been one of the sabers that I've been on the fence on

There is my unboxing and initial review. Not sure if you’ve seen that one or not.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsS-2TpQITQ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsS-2TpQITQ)

The next one will show the before and after, as well as the “how to” customize it. But that one is intended to show how easy it is to punch up the simple elegance of the design and turn it into something even more extraordinary. Hard to go wrong with the liberator for the simple reason that it is sleek and uncluttered and has an elegance to it. And those kind of designs lend themselves to a wider range of customizations—which can be very simple things and the elegance will still come across.
