Lol, what? Is he the younger generation?
California Love - 2 Pac
Hypnotize - Notorius B.I.G.
Jesus Walks - Kanye West
Gin & Juice - Snoop Dog
Rapper Delight - Sugarhill Gang
Express Yourself - N.W.A.
Change Clothes - Jay Z
I thought I'd give him a selection of tunes.
90s Hip Hop is the peek of Hip Hop in my opinion where the real lyricists were.
T'was indeed the golden era for the genre.
Minus the exception of a few modern day rappers like J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Pusha T, Childish Gambino, and Logic, most other rappers aren't great and the songs are not memorable in a couple months
Modern hip-hop (and music industry as a whole) seems to have lost it's way. Like you say, there are the odd exception here and there, but on the whole nothing being made nowadays stands out, is innovative or will stand the test of time.
Of course honorable mentions: Stormzy, Stefflon Don, Skepta, Lady Leshurr, Fredo, AC Tracey, Big Shaq (LOL), Professor Green, Little Simz, MC Mist, Low Key, Tinie Tempah, M.I.A., and 21 Savage (Lol on this one).
A lot of those I class as grime artists not hip-hop. But they do produce the odd good track here and there.
