Hello, I am looking to purchase my first lightsaber an Emerald saber.

I am leaning towards getting and RGB so I can change the color of the saber.

If I get a Tri Cree LED can I still change the saber color?

Emerald options are either RGBA or RGBW. The Tri-Cree are a different option than Emerald and is offered as a single color option.

RGB has a diode for each color run by a board or buttons to make color mixes. Tri Cree has 3 diodes, usually the same color, wired to run together with a different arrangement than the RGB. TriCree is about a fuller blade with the chosen color. RGB is about color options.

You're talking about 3 different light setups.

The emerald, which you say what you're getting, will allow you to change colors to virtually an color you can think of. It has to be hooked up to a computer (not a phone or tablet), and the computer has to accept the US software.

The RGB is a version that is offered in many hilts. It features three buttons on the hilt. One turns on red, one turns on green, and one turns on blue (RGB). You are limited to color combinations you can make to with those three colors.

The tri-cree is a single color bulb. It has three diodes to make it a bit brighter. The reason I say it's a single color is that it cannot change. That is the trade off for the brightness. It cannot flash on clash. It cannot be put in an RGB or emerald saber. So, no you cannot change the color.

The only way to change the color of a saber with TRI-Cree is by swapping the LED module.  If you buy a saber that offers quick disconnects, (will come up as a store option on sabers that have it) you can buy extra LED units or other sabers with quick disconnects and swap out the colors.  However, you will be limited to the colors available in TRI-Cree.
