Title: Question about movies
Post by: Foxstar25 on December 10, 2016, 07:10:23 AM
A debate I have had with my friends and would like some outside opinions. Can you say you are a star wars fan and own the movies without owning spaceballs?

Yes.

What about the Star Wars Christmas special?

What about the Family Guy Star Wars spoofs?

What about all the extended universe books and comics?

Yeah, no, Spaceballs is canon for all true fans.

And Robin Hood fans must love Men in Tights. There is no Mary Shelley without Young Frankenstein. Bram Stoker readers can't get stoked without Dead and Loving It.  ;)

Of course you can...its rare to be sure and you are missing out on a piece of comedy gold...but absolutely can you be a star wars fan without spaceballs.

You absolutely can. Comedy is an especially divisive genre, so Spaceballs isn't for everyone. Now, if someone didn't like Spaceballs and Star Wars...get a rope!  ;)

Sure you can.  By that, I mean other people, because I have Spaceballs on Blu-Ray.  ;D

You of course mean in the same way that I don't 'own' any SW movies... And, by that, I mean I don't own The Rights To...

Sure, you can still be a Star Wars fan without having a copy of Spaceballs... Though why you wouldn't want a copy of Spaceballs, I don't know.

Sure you can.  By that, I mean other people, because I have Spaceballs on Blu-Ray.  ;D
OMG, I need this... Spaceballs on Blu-Ray? I have a new quest.... finding this Blu-Ray.

Nope. I also haven't seen Spaceballs yet. . .

Nope. I also haven't seen Spaceballs yet. . .

So the question remains...Why on both accounts.

:'( Folks, for just pennies a day, you can help sponsor a fan in desperate need of Star Wars. Won't you help Darth Calon?

It's ok, I still haven't seen The Force Awakens.

Come to think of it, since the house fire, I no longer own them either.  Which sucks because I had an original (not updated/upgraded) set of the original trilogy on vhs....

Nope. I also haven't seen Spaceballs yet. . .

You should, it's very funny.

Haven't got around to either. Unless you count TFA on Netflix.

Finances aren't the problem. I've seen them all, and besides ROTS, I don't feel like watching them more than other movies/shows I haven't seen.

You call yourself a Star Wars fan when you haven't seen them all?!? Why haven't you seen it yet?!

I will watch it someday.

OMG, I need this... Spaceballs on Blu-Ray? I have a new quest.... finding this Blu-Ray.

I got it on Amazon in a 3-pack with Young Frankenstein and Robin Hood: Men in Tights.  Three of Mel Brooks' best films, in my opinion.

if it had Blazing Saddles it would have been perfect

Yeah, I know.  That's the same way I feel about it.  I still need to get Blazing Saddles on Blu-Ray.  Then my collection will be complete.  (I've seen some of Brooks' other films that I don't feel the need to own)

Brooks films, for me, are like Pizza.  Even if it isn't very good....its still pizza. :P

Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein and Robin Hood: Men in Tights are by far my favorites.  Dracula: Dead and Loving it was worth watching just for Leslie Nelsons Performance.

I actually have Blazing Saddles on Blu-Ray. I have Men in Tights, but it's DVD not Blu-Ray. I'm told I have a DVD of Spaceballs around here somewhere, but I've never been able to find it.

How about history of the world part 1

Not high on my list, by no means bad but really the French Revolution part was the best...and of course Madeline Kahn.

I saw History of the World Pt. 1 years ago.  If I remember correctly, it was pretty funny.  I didn't care for Silent Movie or Dracula: Dead and Loving It.

Another thing is that I was a SW fan before I had even watched SW. I knew a ton about SW, had plastic sabers, and really wanted to watch the movies. I know this does not necessarily make someone a SW fan, but I was one long before I watched the movies.

Not the most common route of course.  May I ask how was it this came about?

I am honestly not sure. My siblings and I had I guess just heard about it, and learned stuff about it. We had two plastic Obi-Wan sabers that we played with all the time. We had friends that liked SW, and we would play SW games with them. We got the original trilogy for Christmas one year, and we all cheered super loud. It has just always been a part of my life, but not until we got the movies did I really understand how big a part they were.
