Title: Hello from Iowa
Post by: IceCold on May 26, 2017, 04:12:28 PM
I'm in the process of figuring out my first US purchase.

My wife did what I never thought she would, and bought me my first "replica" saber for our anniversary.
I love it, but we all know that thing can't be used to have any kind of real fun with.  I told her she opened pandora's box, and should expect to see more sabers around the house very soon.

I have two sons, ages 6 and 4.  I'm planning to get a couple of initiates with 24" ultra edge heavy blades for them.  After I finish deciding what I want for myself, that is.

Leaning towards a Dominex V4 with a 32" UE Heavy blade in Sunrider's Destiny.

I'm a fan of real Old Republic stuff (Ulic & Cay Qel-Droma, Nomi Sunrider, Exar Kun, etc) so I could see myself attempting some cool customizations down the road.

Welcome to the forum.  Yeah, that first nice saber is often the one that leads to more.  Next thing you know, you're going to have half a dozen, then a dozen, then you get to the point where you can't remember offhand how many you have, especially when you have a few broken down to the bare hilt for modification purposes.  ;)

By the way, if you're going to go Sunrider's Destiny, you may want to spend the extra money on a Li-Ion setup with a buck puck, even on a stunt.  With either setup that uses a resistor, as your batteries drain, one LED starts getting less power (the one that requires more) and your saber will change colors.  The buck puck keeps the power levels consistent and makes it stay the correct color until the batteries are so drained that the saber just shuts off.

Thanks for the advice!  I worked at a Batteries Plus for about 7 years, so I figured those rechargeable lithium batteries with the buckpuck would be the way to go.  I haven't decided on sound yet or not, either.  Lots of stuff to consider...

Dominix V4 LE is a very good choice. My son has one in blazing red.
Beautiful hilt with a nice weight to it.

Welcome to both the hobby and the forum

It all depends on budget.  I bought my first few as stunts, then finally sprang for sound when the Electrum Wind came out and there was a sale on.  It's really fantastic, but stunts are nice to have too.

It's cool that you know about the battery issues.  Not everyone does and some people get bummed out when they get the resistor setup for mixed colors and the color isn't consistent.

Welcome. My first saber was with sound, and after I bought it, I didn't think I would want a saber without sound. However, a friend gave me a stunt saber, and it actually isn't bad. Once you are wielding it, you really don't notice that it doesn't have sound, so either are good options. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. The only thing we ask is that you first use the Search Function (picture with magnifying glass) to make sure that the question has not already been answered. If you can't find any answers, go ahead and ask. Someone will quickly come along and supply you with answers, or links of where to find them.

Again, welcome.

Hello and welcome  :)  Admittedly I was just going to get a stunt saber myself but it was my (wonderful) wife--of all people--that reminded me that 1) sound is not an onerous upgrade (in terms of the cash difference; I spent an extra $68 thanks to a timely coupon  ;)) and that 2) as this is a hobby, get precisely what I want and be happy.  How can I argue with an endorsement like that?  ;).  Now I know that my next purchase will include a stunt saber but I absolutely have no regrets (quite the opposite) with getting sound for my first saber ^^

Granted, just my 2˘  :D. As you can see: two disparate yet valid views^^

Welcome! You're right - Pandora's Box has been opened, and can't be closed again. May as well start building a display rack ;)

Hello and welcome to the ADDICTION!
As James said if you are like some of us you will need a display rack, there great!
I think that the Dominix LE would look pretty good in SRD.  MTFBWY!

Order has been placed!

Dominix V4 windowed emitter with UE Heavy Blade in Sunrider's Destiny
Li-Ion with buckpuck
Black non-illuminated switch.

The wait begins.........this is the worst part, right?  The waiting?

Welcome to the Saber Forum Ice Cold! Excellent choice for a saber. My first one was the "Light Side" Le version of what you got. I got it with a HG UE blade, consular green, windowed emitter and obsidian v3 sound board with rechargeable lithium ion batteries with buck puck. I have had it over a year and a half and it is still rockin. I haven't purchased one with sound since and I own 8 Ultrasabers now. (technically 6, the 2 initiates are my padawan daughter's) I actually love the stunt sabers more. Don't get me wrong, the obsidian sound board is an amazing sounding piece of technology and I plan on getting more with sound but as Taegan Roan said, once you start wielding it you really don't notice it not being there anymore.
Glad you have joined us and yes my friend the waiting is the hardest part and well worth it.
There is a lot of great people on this forum and you will feel at home here.  Well, I am gonna  leave you with words of wisdom from the Grey Jedi Order....

One must study all aspects of the force. There is no dark side nor light side, only the force and one must do what it takes to keep balance.....
May the force be with you.

BTW, Would love to see pics of the new saber when you get it.

I'm extremely happy!  I haven't found a good photo online of a Dominix V4 in Sunrider's Destiny, so here it is:
