Title: Grand Master Saberstaff With Weathering
Post by: Therion Jinn on May 05, 2019, 02:55:24 PM
Went to work on doing some weathering on my new Grand Master saberstaff

Here is the complete saberstaff, with the adjustable vented coupler in place
This hilt is 27 1/2" long without blades

After doing some sanding with a combination of a wire wheel in my dremel and some drywall sanding screen to bring down the black anodizing to a lighter shade, I found that some of the wire wheel work had removed a lot more of the anodizing than I'd intended.
To help remedy some of this, I applied a very light coat of gunmetal to the hilt, followed by a black wash

I'd started out in removing the excess wash with some steel wool, but soon found some of the scroll work coming clean.
So, I went in with an old toothbrush and work the whole saber with that instead.
The end result is a saber that looks used, and in a couple of spots, possibly abused

Very nice.

I'll never be bold enough to try something like that.

Thanks, guys.

chalion,
If you ever decide to get into customizing, start with cheaper hilts until you get comfortable

I have been debating taking some fine steel wool to my gold staff. Just to dull down the gold and make it a bit more aged...

Steel wool alone could be a LOT of work on their anodizing, TR. Just a heads-up

I've said it before, I don't like the etching on these... BUT with the weathering it looks a lot better. Nice job!

Thanks, MP
In this case, the etching is straight off the saber it's based on
