So do I, honestly.  It tells me they're willing to take a bit longer to tell a good story.   I remember watching a documentary/commentary with Lucas about the Prequal movies, specificially about Ep2, talking about how they cut out the romance/relationship stuff (the character story) to keep the length down to about 100 minutes.   Made me angry, in all honesty.

I’m not sure why people complain about the time. I look forward to it
To be fair, I haven't really seen that much about people saying it's too long. I think the thing people worry about is having take a bathroom break during the film and missing something good. In that case I would say don't drink anything at least two hours beforehand and definitely don't drink anything during the movie. Problem solved.

Also a 3 hr epic to finish a 22 movie saga sounds about right.

Like I said, its a particular age group that complains about the time.  Just had a whole facebook back and forth about it.

What age group? Surely there are better things to debate about online (and sorry for calling you Shirley)

About 25 and under is what I have personally experienced.   Less debate more educating on how this isn't the first movie to be 3 hrs long.

Sounds about right. It’s normally the younger generation that complains.

I don't tend to converse with anyone that young (apart from on here) so that's probably why I miss out on such exasperating conversations.

For Pete's sake. I've watched plenty of movies over 3 hours long. You know what the worst part of them is? They end. 3 hours isn't that much (1/8 of the day, okay, that is quite a bit, but whatever). If you do not want to watch a 3 hour movie in theaters, don't. Wait till it comes out on DVD, then you can fast forward or pause all you like.

In this day and age when people will sit a binge an entire season of a show on Netflix, complaining about a 3 hr movie is moot. And yes, I know you can pause Netflix. But still, how often do people pause a show when they are bingeing? A 3 hr movie is only 3 episodes of a drama tv show.

LOL

the real reason 3 hr movies are not generally liked is because you can't show it as often.   But with something like Endgame?   Just put in more screens.   People will come.   Over and over.

That's only a consideration for studios and movie chains. But I'm sure they've taken that into account already.

Most of my employees are in that age range, a private movie Facebook group I belong to also has a good number in that age range and I have 7 Nephews and nieces all under 27.  So I tend to talk movies with quite a few in that group.

But still, how often do people pause a show when they are bingeing?

Quite a bit actually from my own experience.  Bathroom breaks, snack breaks, just breaks in general to go do something else.

Interesting The only time I will do that is for shows I've already seen. Like I've just restarted watching Buffy again. Seen the show many times in the past, so I am not focussing on it 100%. But for a show I've never seen before, I always focus on it 100%. I bring my snacks with me beforehand. But different viewing habits for different people.

Being at home there are so many things to do I rarely sit still very long.

Could you not do the things, get them out the way and then sit down to watch without distractions?
