I came across this and found it amusing. Threads are not a secret, they cannot be patented or their use restricted. Been around for several thousand years now. Any machinist can measure them and make them.
TCSS acts like they are a protected business secret. LOL.

Unfortunately, you cannot link to another forums thread on here.  You are free to copy and paste.  I would just be sure to give credit so that no one can accuse you of anything untoward.  (Rolling eyes but wants to convey the message that people do get upset over their "threads" being used elsewhere.)

Thanks for the FYI. I don't know how to remove the link. I understand people want to protect their ideas, that is legitimate. But no one alive today invented threads, so thread sizes are not secrets or protected ideas.

eh yes or no

look at airsoft, the industry has flourished because there is a standard now, most companies making AEG rifles or gas pistols go out of their way to make them tokyo marui compatible

because marui was the first to have very very very reliable and highly precise measurements in their parts

if every sabersmith used mhs compatible parts, there would be a lot more designs out there, each builder might not sell as many complete sabers, but they would definately sell a ton more components and individual mhs parts

simply because the consumer can then mix and match their favourite parts from various builders, i cant wait till ultra adds more emitter and pommel designs, the mixing and matching between the ones he has is great already, its only going to get better

All I can say is the following:

Look at computers.  Everyone tries to make something that is compatible with Microsoft Windows.  If you have someone trying to create something where you can only get service from them and them alone, that is a monopoly.  Eventually, monopolies cause prices to rise and service to decrease.  Eventually, someone else comes along to replace them.

If you work to make your systems compatible with as many people as possible, then you get a larger customer base and therefore you are seen much more customer focused and your sales will rise and you will dominate not through a monopoly but through customer appreciation.

It is nice to have a variety as long as you do not go overboard.  That is reason that some products are phased out, to make room for the new.  Call them upgrades, advancements, whatever.

You make a great point that any descent machinist can figure the situation out and then you have people attempting to pirate and nobody benefits in the end.

Elitism has never allowed anything in the world to grow.  Kodak is closed because they truly believed no one would ever replace film for pictures.  Ever hear of American Motors?  They never created anything new and eventually lost sales because people wanted to be unique therefore AMC lost new customers and the old ones could not support them alone. Oldsmobile did the same thing, they lost their market by being too rigid.

I say, let others "guard" their secrets.  When you publish that you are guarding something, you are inviting two things:  Thieves to steal or angry customers that feel you don't trust them.

Don't worry about the link.  No body can go directly to it and the curious will go view it for themselves.

All that and the fact that anyone can just measure them themselves.

Yeah, and the fact that ultrasaber's stuff is TCSS compatible means more sales for TCSS, because people who buy a saber here just might want to buy some extra parts to swap out and personalize it with. Just the other day I put my short choke and pointy pommel assembly on the end of my Consular, and it looked amazing! I can't be the only one who's done mix and match like this.

I agree with you on this Amanita.  It helps to illustrate my point that when people then begin to make sure that you cannot mix & match any further, then you are gonna lose a customer base:  Those that like to mix and match.  On my Overlord Project, 90% of the parts came from US but the parts that they do not sell, had to come from somebody.  A secondary market source helps everyone.
