Title: RIP Carrie Fisher!
Post by: KraytDragonPearl on December 27, 2016, 06:18:22 PM
The news just came in and Carrie Fisher didn't make it.  It is a sad day for all of us who have watched her one the years.  Princess Leia will always be my first love.

RIP Carrie Fisher.

Repeating some of what I replied elsewhere.  :(

Sad news indeed... but she would have been a shell of her former self if she had survived... to any reasonable recovery expectations.  A delightful eccentric rare light that embraced her life's ups and downs and was an inspiration to many young girls and women.

She will be missed by so many... and her Force spirit will be honored and kept alive by others... through acts such as  cosplay tributes.  :)

This is hitting me a lot harder than I thought it would.

I know I may be understating it, but damn, this is such a ******* bummer.

I feel the same way.  My wife told me that Carrie Fisher is America's True Princess.  The only one we will ever have!

  :'(

No words right now.  I just watched the OT for the 2 millionth time in my life this week, thinking about her the whole viewing.

Well, the one thing I am thinking now, and please note I say this advisedly, is that Episode VIII is going to be a very hard watch now.

And one happy memory of her talent - she ghost wrote a lot of the Dialogue that made it into the finished film of Empire Strikes Back.

This article shows a page of the script with her handwritten changes - a lot of which are instantly recognizable from the film.  The dialogue would have been a lot more wooden indeed without her contributions.

All of us at work are HUGE Star Wars fans.  We actually closed the shop for an hour so we could absorb the impact of this.  I usually handle death quite well, even within my own family, but man, I cried.  We all did.  Despite trying to have a positive outlook about her condition, we somehow knew it wasn't going to end well.

Carrie was my first female crush and someone I deeply admired.  I'm so, so sad about this.  I can't even articulate how I feel right now.   :'(

My New Year's resolution is to watch 2016 die.

And another one....2016 took so many great actors, musicians, politicians.....I don't think I could stand another year like that...

To quote Madonna: "Pi** off, 2016"

I met her at a company social event 2 years back.  She was in bad shape to be quite candid - you could tell she was on some very powerful meds w slurred speech and somewhat incoherent thoughts during the 1 hour discussion / Q&A.  She did talk about her struggle with drugs and bi-polar disorder which paved the way for more recent healthy campaigns and initiatives.

RIP - Carrie Fisher!

It's a bit quiet around the house, now. My whole family are fans of Star Wars and particularly Carrie Fisher. My wife and I loved her in "When Harry Met Sally", too. We got to meet her at Comic Con, standing right next to her and her dog, Gary Fisher, and I'll never forget it...

She is dearly missed and when I heard the news this morning from my 17 year old son who read about it first, I can only say I had a glimpse of what Obi Wan Kenobi must have felt like when he said, "I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror... I fear something terrible has happened." Indeed we are all the millions of voices crying out in terror that we have lost this beloved lady.  The best words of comfort I've seen today are in the statement that she has become one with the Force. May she find comfort, solace and rest in that place. I'm having trouble accepting that she's not with us now. It's gonna be a Carrie Fisher movie day I think, starting with a New Hope.  :'(

This is hitting me harder than I thought.  Im sitting here watching How I met your mother and its the Star Wars episode.  They watch The Trilogy every three years and the last was in 2015.  The next trilogy night is 2018 and it will never be the same.  I have been crying off and on all evening long.  This really sucks.

Sorry all.  Ill try to stop being such a cry baby.

I'm feeling it, too, and you are most welcome to say anything you're feeling, KDP, as you are in good company here with the sadness this day has brought. For me Dec. 27th will be remembered as a day of parting sorrow when we all had to say good bye to our Carrie Fisher. Sure does suck.  :'(

You're 100% entitled to cry.  No one despises crying more than I do, but yet, here I am.  Right this second, in fact!  And I'm gonna KEEP crying if I want to, dammit.  No one can stop me! ;)

I'd just been commenting to a friend how kriffed up 2016 was ending, with four celeb deaths in my news feed app last night.

This makes five and one of the most saddening of 2016. Now I really really wish I had seen her when she came to Perth a couple of years ago :(

RIP Carrie Fisher, and MTFBWY.

Rogue One comes out, the Death Star plans get stolen.

The Empire 2016 has already killed R2D2, but just to make certain, they killed Princess Leia too.

Ok, everyone into the T.A.R.D.I.S., we're all just skipping ahead to next year, possibly 2018, maybe even 2112, somewhere around May-ish just to be safe.

Don't worry, folks...

Old Obi-Wan Kenobi and R2-D2 have taken the opportunity to recruit her to fight evil in the next higher plane. The bad guys have NO IDEA what they're in for.

I almost feel bad for them now...

Just remember, Carrie once stated she wanted her obituary to say:

I can’t believe Carrie Fisher died drowned in moonlight, strangled by her own bra.

Mods, can we get all the Carrie Fisher threads merged together under a single title: "RIP Carrie Fisher: Drowned in Moonlight, Strangled By Her Own Bra" please?

This GIF I made sums up my feelings perfectly...

No no no no no!

Drahcir summed it up perfectly, only princess I ever cared about. Whenever I think of the OT, I think of Han and then Leia right after. Never cared about that Luke guy.

So what does this mean for Episode 9? I assume Leia won't be in it. Also, I'm correct in hearing that the filming for Ep. 8 is done?

They confirmed a while ago that all live action filming with the actors was 110% wrapped.

It does leave the question, like you said, what happens to IX, not that that is important right now.  But I did hear this one set her up to have her biggest part in IX  . . . so, like I said - not important now, but once people at LucasFilm get past the shock & mourning, they may have some serious hoops to try and jump through to make Ep IX make sense without her . . . and for all that is holy and/or profane I REALLY hope they don't seriously entertain the thought of "CG Leia" for the last one.  (You KNOW someone at LF is gonna pitch the idea . . .)

I have lost too many celebrities that I love in recent years, especially this year.  Leia is a character that women of many generations have been able to look up to.  I am so sad to loss Carrie Fisher, but I know that future generations will continue to watch Star Wars and they also will be inspired and motivated by her portrayal of Princess Leia.  That is her legacy to the future, and it will continue for as long the memory of Star Wars remains.  Just think, right now a small child is watching A New Hope for the first time and being amazing by how smart and strong Leia is. A child that thinks "I want to be like her".  How amazing is it to have that kind of positive influence on the lives of so many people.

I don't know who is directing Ep. 9 or writing the script, but man, I wouldn't want to be that person.  Not for anything in the world.  Can you imagine being tasked the with the job of how to handle this respectfully and at the same time, advance the story line?  Holy crap.   I just hope they handle all of this with grace in the upcoming years.

I won't comment on the CGI thing because I have mixed feelings about that, but all I care about is that this is handled in a way that honors Carrie.  And it's not even important right now.  As much as I love Star Wars, Carrie was SO MUCH MORE than Princess Leia.  I just hope her loved ones can find some peace.  I hope we all can.

For some reason, I personally feel like Time makes all the difference in this.

To recreate Tarkin digitally felt like a show of respect to the great Peter Cushing, gone 22 years.

To recreate General Leia Organa digitally right after Carrie Fisher passed feels to me like you're saying getting the movie done as envisioned is the most important thing.

I think a digital cameo would be respectful & nice, but to do it as a Lead role for Ep. IX just seems a bit ghoulish, at least to me anyway.   :-\

I apologize in advance if this offends someone but had least she had some humor about it.

As I said yesterday on Facebook: "I say that we keep the babies, the promotions, and the diplomas, but everything else that happened in 2016 needs to be burned out of the public record. 2016, the year that never officially happened. Who is with me?"

Billie is probably losing her mind.

Same here last night. When Han, who is gone at the end, meets with Leia who passed away with Carrie Fisher. The characters who aren't real were made real to me by these actors. Though I don't know them, they've taken some place in my life. I hope her daughter has someone strong close to her and will this time each year.

We powered up our sabers at midnight for Carrie.  The rain here stopped long enough for fireworks and then, resumed as heavy as ever.  But for about 5 minutes, there was nothing but a little lightsaber combat on the porch and the sound of fireworks . . . oh, and me shouting, "@$&% 2016!!!" as loud as I could.

Carrie would have approved.  ;)
