Not sure if that is a movie reference or not, but I've always called this symbol --> # a number sign. It wasn't till the whole "hashtag" thing started that I knew it was called "pound" or "pound sign".
Pound sign is the really old name for it. Back when phones were radial dial and up to the time when collect calls were how you got rides in a pinch. |

I've always called it pound sign but social media started to call it hashtag which I think is dumb, it's still pound sign to me
