It's as simple as that. I don't want to set a lot of parameters, so we'll include (non magical) fantasy swordsas well, but let's stick to something non-fiction as much as possible. Here's my example:
I have several favorite swords, as everyone, but in an adventuring situation, personally, I would want either a wakizashi and a ko-katana (nisshoku), or an old ninjutsu weapon where you have the straight bladed weapon concealed in a walking stick, just not as short as the zatoichi type swords, just the same concept.
I've always liked the khopesh and the falcata as well...

Not exactly a sword, but my all time top weapon is the Naginata, it was a truly amazing weapon in it's day. As far as swords go, i'd say my favorite to use is the Phillipino Bolo (sp?) swords. You also gotta love a nice chain whip though

For some reason, straight-edged blades always appealed to me. Maybe I just like to stab rather than slash. The Japanese chokuto seems to be the closest to what I have in mind, like Sasuke's sword in Naruto. Or a lightsaber  |

My favourite sword would have to be a reverse bladed katana.  I love it because you can catch your opponent offguard with this sword and proper form. Can you imagine the upstroke?! Edit: I'd love to see photos of these swords you all speak of. Please add pics if you can. Thanks. -Smokie |

i'm not sure how to post images yet, so until then, the ko-katana I was referring to is available at http://www.swordnarmory.com/Handmade-Ko-Katana-Samurai-Katana-Ninja-Sword-T10-p/jh-1101.htm by munetoshi. It is essentially a two handed wakizashi, so you could wield it two handed for power cuts, but they sheath it in a normal length saya for deception. Two Samurai announce their titles to one another, they nod toward one another, and the battle begins. They slowly half circle one another, a good 15 feet apart at all times. They creep closer to each other, and the first Samurai begins to draw his katana. The second Samurai draws his ko-katana fully from his saya, which the first Samurai swore was a typical katana, and makes a clean nukitsuke. The first Samurai slumps to his knees, his eyes loll up as his head slowly rolls off it's former body. Ahhh. I love a good sword... But I will second the Ka-Bar vote, hell yeah! |

Bastard Sword Chinese Straight or Broad Swords (either one) A Cutlass and lastly a good old fencing blade, because so many concentrate on slashing and forget to stab... or parry.  And of course, ya can't forget the lightsaber! Oh, not exactly a bladed weapon... but a good .44 Revolver is something I'd hate to adventure without too. For those pesky foes attacking at range!  Then again, a C-98 would do that job just as well... |

I have always favored, and own, a long sword katana "massamune" weapon based on Sephiroth's sword in FF7. I also like the claymore design, These are great because their weight is useful for training... I'm also half decent with a bow and arrow.
Ultra - Brisngr looks VERY much like my Glamdring sword from Gandalf in LOTR, right down to the blue glow (must be orcs about!) but I dont recall the name of the sword. Maybe it's not from Tolkien or I'm just a bit rusty?
Also, is that one sword from Pirates of Dark Water? If so, you're awesome!
