Title: Fonts"R"us...
Post by: KaiserSosay on August 27, 2019, 01:20:37 AM
So I am in a really good mood today! I hope everyone else is too.

I'm open to/for sound font requests!
One free Diamond save with each free sound font!

I don't see why it wouldn't.

You might want a brand new font though! Just in case.

...Oh, and it takes one to know one!

Really?

No one wants a sound font or diamond save?

OUCH!

Okay! Tomorrow I'll make myself a "new" sound font and diamond save.

Johnny Dangerously sounds like fun and fits my mood.

I don't have a Diamond Board, so I am not sure what a Diamond Save would be for me on a lowly Obsidian.  But its cool of you to offer your talents to the community! Point for awesomeness.

A diamond save is an obsidian sound font, mixed with colors. So when you load it on a diamond board you get colors that match up with the sounds!
I only have stunt sabers and diamond sabers now. So I make an obsidian sound font. With a couple extra sounds, because the diamond board does stab, spin, force and gestures. Then I test it out on my diamond saber to make sure it sounds ok. Even if you only wanted sounds, I still have to mix colors to play it on the diamond board.

So Obsidian = sounds
  Diamond save = sounds+colors

The sound files I make for a diamond save can be use on any obsidian board too!

So, I'm still in a great mood and I have nothing to do for the next three days... anybody want or need a new sound font? Diamond or Obsidian  requests are welcome.

F.Y.I.   I posted a Kylo Ren diamond save recently. I also posted some Ventress sound files the other day.
Any requests will be seriously considered and the weirder the request the better! I like a challenge.

So I've watched some clips. It is totally possible to do, but not easy.
First thing to remember, the hum sound is the backbone sound. You need a hum, swing and clash. Everything else is not nearly as important.  If you figure out a hum sound,  you are half way there. I would recommend concentrating on that first. Swing and clash sounds kind of jump out at me when I'm hunting for the hum sound. So keep your ear open when searching for the hum!

Any funny quotes you come across, recorded them ALL. You can use them for the on and off sounds. You can use qoutes for almost everything. But you need the hum sound to mix behind them, to have everything flow together.

I know you are doing this for a diamond saber. Don't even worry about colors until you have sounds ready to load on your saber!

Concentrate on finding a good hum sound or two. You will find all the other sounds while you hunt for the hum.

I'm going to watch some more clips and see if any sounds seem good as a hum to me. I'll send you whatever I find!  The theme song would be good for a lock up. You could also take a  recording from the end of the theme and have "Angry Beavers" as a boot sound.

I'll make some recordings and get back to you.

So I just posted some sound files for you to listen to. File is in the link below.
2 on sounds, 2 swings and 2 clashes. 1 hum, lockup, boot, spin, stab, and off sounds. Just to get you started!
I'm  not sure about the hum sound. Let me know what you think?  I don't see the point of mixing in a hum sound if you don't want to use it.

I'll go make some more recordings for you!
Let me know.

Hey KaiserSosay, I am definitely willing to put your skills to work.  I just got my new Monarch with Obsidian v4 sound. I NEED a new sound font/fonts for it. Think Grey Jedi who can hear the call of the DARK SIDE more and more. He's recently been forced into a lightsaber duel...that ended in an extremely brutal fashion. ( think DARTH MALGUS) there may have even been an incredibly powerful force lightening display reported. I leave it to your imagination. Can you so it?

I also have a diamond saber, so light effects/sound fonts  for diamond sabers would Also be welcome.

Sorry.
To make things more clear,  I can NOT make sounds from scratch.
If the sounds you want on your saber, do not already exist somewhere in some form of media already, I can not help.

If you know of a media source, tv show, movie, video game, then I can help you out!

Creating things from scratch,  I'm not there yet.

Also I'm still doing recordings of Angry Beavers.
After that, Jack Skeleton from the Nightmare before Christmas.  My son asked for it. His first sound font request!

If you think of something I can RIP,  then edit,  I'm happy to help. When I get done with the other two fonts. Neither one should take very long.

No problem. I'll look around for something good.  It must be fun to make a font for your son. That's  cool.

I also have a more traditional sounding lightsaber theemd font request, I will be getting me a saber with sound eventually so :P A somewhat dark side sounding font but not quit there. Thought that would be cool =]

Something I've noticed is that the primary Obsidian Font seems like the best of the ones that come preinstalled. The Ancient and others are cool and are really awesome.  But I'm talking about the Episode ones. Only the default is as smooth and complete sounding with Episode I coming in a close second. Episode IV seems cut off, and V has blasters from Walkers (what's with that?). I wonder if there a way to use the Primary default font, what is the best and change that up, deeper more throaty for sith like to start with.

Not sure I even know what I'm talking about. I feel I'm still new.

Thanks, I do think your fonts are AWESOME!!!

What else you got?
Make a suggestion please!

Sorry, but until I can get the Mac version of the Diamond Launcher to load, there's no way for me to mess around with stuff, so I got nothin'.

:(

And FYI, RSX Engineering is working on getting this resolved, for those who are wondering.

So you have your saber! RSX Engineering has figured out and fixed your Mac problems!
I'm starting a Harry Potter font/Diamond save this weekend! I'll post sound files when I have some to share.

Well, I can't say I'm not looking forward to it!

I'm still trying to figure out how you isolate a non-irritating "idle hum" sound to use from something like a movie, so that it's identifiably from the movie, but still seems appropriate for a light saber.  Then do the same task for all the other default actions.  Power-up and power-down aren't so difficult, because they're special not only in that they're short, but also in that they are like an introduction and a farewell address, so to speak, so they don't have to be tolerable for repetitive listening, either as constant sounds, like the idle hum, or as frequent sounds, such as clash, stab, spin, or the rest.

Title: Re: Fonts"R"us...
Post by: KaiserSosay on November 23, 2019, 12:39:32 AM
The music of the movie for an idle hum! 8 movies should give a great variety to choose from.

The de-illuminator thing Dumbledore gives to Ron might be good for power on and off?!?

Spells for spins and stabs. Everything else will become obvious as I go through the movies.

Hopefully Zren Tobas sees this post and adds in his suggestions! I know he is a big fan and he has some great ideas too!
So enough sounds to make separate fonts for Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Snipe for the forum sith?
I think "WE" would prefer Voldemort!

Get your 16 inch blade ordered now! Seems like the perfect length blade for a wand.

Title: Re: Fonts"R"us...

Mine needs to protrude 10-3/4" from the end of the emitter, according to Pottermore (oops! It's now Wizarding World). :)  Now, what RGBW settings would I need to use to make my blade look light brown, like fir wood?  I bet I could add a little bit of red to a nice yellow...

And yes, Snape will provide a wealth of quote-worthy sounds, but Voldemort doesn't have that much on-screen dialogue that (at least right now) screams "GRAB ME FOR YOUR SABER!!!!" to me.  Maybe we could get some stuff from some of his other Death Eaters, like Wormtail, one of the Carrows, or maybe Barty Crouch, Jr (either as himself or as fauxMoody) to flesh things out.

Another thought would be the sounds of some of the magical beasts, like Norbert(a) and the other dragons, or Buckbeak, the Sphinx (oh, wait, that didn't make it into the movies), a mature Blast-Ended Skrewt (oh, wait, THOSE didn't make it into the movies, either), an Acromantula, the Basilisk, the Mandrakes, some Cornish Pixies, a werewolf (poor Lupin!), some of the Dementor background sounds (for an idle hum, maybe?), or even some of Fawkes's cries.

Well, we have our work cut out for us, don't we?  Heavens, there's lots more material here than I first suspected!

I'm half way through the first movie. Idle hum sounds will not be a problem.
Swings and clash sounds might be hard. I need thoughts on those sounds.
No rush, 7 and a half movies to go through still.

The real reason for this post was to warn you, about something I forgot to mention before...

I'm totally going to sneak in quotes from Robot Chicken!

I agree on the De-Illuminator actually. Maybe for clashes use the spell sounds like when Harry and Draco had their mini duel in the 6th movie in the bathroom.  Lockup when Harry and Voldemort had their first encounter in the 4th movie. Can't really think of anything for swing kind of sounds though, I'll have to watch a few of the movies again. Definitely need some Lord Voldemort quotes though for sure :P

Quidditch has some good sounds that might work for swings.

Technically, it’s called a (or, perhaps more properly, THE, since there’s only one) Deluminator or, in the first book (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone), the Put-Outer.

And yes, it matters, because that’s the kind of Potterhead I am.  So there.  :)

Didn't think about the Quidditch scenes actually for some swing sounds :P And every match scene has different flying type of sounds if you want multiple ones so that works out so I think a Harry Potter themed sound font is pretty much covered

It is on the way!

I have never watched the Harry Potter films with ultrasabers fonts in mind. Watching them and only paying attention to the sounds is a different experience.  I have to pause, listen again, then rewind again and record. Whatever the movie length is, you can added an hour and a half to that time, for me to get through it.
Three down and five to go. The newer movies have better quality and better results when recording. I haven't watch the films in a while so I am noticing new things while only paying attention to the sounds.
Don't be surprised if better sound choices are eluding us. I'm trying to be thorough. I feel like I'm recording everything.

5 characters in one shot!
I'm going to keep my word! It will just take a little while.

I also have to start and finish Jedi fallen order before too long here.

This HUGE amount of time simply for the recording of the “sound set” is only part of what is going to take so long, and thank you VERY MUCH for taking on this task.  Once you get your entire pool of clips collected, then comes the arduous task of determining WHICH of these will actually be used, and for what effect.  Then comes the culling of the ones that, for whatever reason, just didn’t work out, and will be tossed into the bit bucket.  After all this organization, of course, comes the work of actually putting the sounds together with various light effects.

HUGE AMOUNT OF WORK!!!!!!

thanks!

If you read this post,  it should answer all your questions.  If not come back and ask more questions.
.pfnt files are for diamond sabers only. Load this file type from the advanced editor.

.dcfg, I have no idea what type of file that is.
