Title: Majestic Mini's (Miniatrues, Bigatures and everything in between)
Post by: Kham-Ryn Kurios on April 08, 2016, 06:01:04 PM
Please feel free to post pictures and discuss painting and assembling techniques for any and all miniatures.

(This is a quick photo of the army so far, I'll post more pictures later.)
(These were painted by my wife, MJ, and myself.)

Sweet.  Those are nicer than I'd anticipated (although I do have one, the Royal Guard Champion).

You and me both. HAHA!

So since these are our first mini's we started with all of the Stormtroopers and because there are so many of them it really helped us develop our technique, but more importantly taught us the fundamentals of miniature painting.

I mean at first, just like any hobby, we went a bought a bunch of crap we thought we'd need, but have in fact never used.  :D

Very nice Kham.

I especially like the probe droids.

How much time do you have into it?

Thank you, +1.

30 at least, my wife says more, but the safe bet is around 30 hours.  :)

To start http://www.reapermini.com/ that will give you good mini's and paints. For painting techniques go here http://www.how-to-paint-miniatures.com/miniature_painting_welcome.html. Have fun but keep in ming that this hobby can get expensive.

Having been inspired by this thread, I've just ordered a model AT-ST in 1/48 scale (I see no AT-STs here -  :-\ ).

I don't have the eyesight, or manual dexterity required for minis anymore, but hopefully will do my new walker justice.

Thanks Kham. :)

Saw some Ronin influenced Star Wars Figurines here in Japan... maybe I will buy them, but they're quite expensive XD

We still have some weathering to do, plus the bases, but here they are:

It was tough to find an AT-ST one.  I had to get one from Japan.

Same company has a modified T-47, and a speeder bike.  They're cued. :)

Here's a rather dusty, old thread...

With the cooler weather upon me, I can finally don my Sith attire in full, without dying.

Also, though, it means that I'll be indoors more often.  Time to start modelling in earnest.

I've decided to begin with this:

It's far less detailed than the AT-ST will be, and will provide good practice for my stupid right hand - the manual dexterity deficient one.

That said, it may take me considerably longer to do this...

I agree, it's around that time to pull out the paints and start back up again.

Not meaning to pry, but what's the progress on your AT-ST?

Well sir, TBT, aside from opening the box and seeing the monumental task at hand, not a thing has been done to it yet...lol

I'm a couple of paint colours short for it actually.

I thought that I'd start with the fighter jet, so my mistakes can be made on it.

Bandai produce some great kits, I've been hooked on building their Gundams for a few years now, so when they recently started doing Star Wars stuff, I started picking up the ones I particularly liked. So far I've only completed the 1/12 scale Stormtrooper, but I've begun painting their tiny Star Destroyer kit. I'll post some pics of that once it's finished  ;)

This Stormtrooper is unpainted though, as it really didn't need any.

If we're being truthful, we too, have stopped our painting; we still have quite a few pieces left.  :D

MJ and I did the same thing on a few loose mini's that we had before starting on the game pieces. You got to get that muscle memory into your fingers bore the complicated stuff.

Arrow's built.

It wasn't very tough at all.  I just need to clean-up the paint a bit:

I even managed to add a bit of detail to the pilots:

Then it gets the markings.  That'll be fun. O_o

Hi Lord Rapine, if the decals for your model are the Waterslide type you soak then put in place, you could try using a small drop of dish washing detergent in the water. This helps you slide the decals into place. They will take slightly longer to dry in place but it allows you  to precisely place them.

Also on a side note, have you seen the Dan Aykroyd movie "The Arrow"? I thought it was fascinating.

point for the paintjob so far very recognisable!

Thanks For Tyeth, but I have done water decals before - many times.  :)

There's just lots of them, they're very small, and my manual dexterity is horrible...lol

Of course, I have to do the Ontario one.  RL203 - extra crap. O_o

I have indeed seen that movie. ;D  Pretty Good.

That does look pretty cool Greywolf.

I ought to stick to painting, because I'm HORRID at decals.  Ruined two already - I'll have to maybe order another set - or just say "SCREW IT!".  (stupid hand...  :-\)

I don't think the AT-ST has many at all.

Edit: It has a few cog logos.  That I can handle.  The jet has flags, and numbers to make, and pin stripping...UGH!

A pic of my decal work so far...

I know it may seem like I'm kind of rushing through this, but there really wasn't much to it, and I do have hours per day...

I think I may forgo the pain of trying to add the pin stripping. :P

Note: The Ontario flag on the tail was a decal on top of a decal.  Nice. O_o
