Sentinel with a camera

« on: January 31, 2019, 10:07:55 PM »

I'm going to start this review with another quick review, as a point of reference.

My first hilt was the Prophecy v3. A nice conservative homage to the Graflex hilts. Light and relatively compact, no anodized parts or lots of grooves around its circumference, two choke points for a choice of handling. It even has two brass thumbwheels which adds to the junkbox aesthetic of the whole Star Wars Universe. For a first blade, I couldn't be happier. I'll provide my Prophecy v3 with a complete review later on.

Now to the Dark Sentinel LE v5:
It's big. Really big. Compared to the Prophecy, it's about three inches longer. Longer still, with the Dark Warglaive pommel I opted for.

It's heavy. For the reasons above.

It's anodized. Black, with the unfinished aluminum on all the machined areas, including the grips.

Large emitter windows. The Prophecy v3 has a pair of dots along the one choke point toward the blade. The Dark Sentinel (and the rest of the v5 line) have a gothic quality with their low-high-low window arrangement.

The grip's finish is, I think, a nice touch. Both comfortable and offers a positive grip without biting into your hands. I haven't tried it with sweaty palms, but I think it will work nicely when the warm weather returns.

It looks good with any color blade. You can choose either light or dark side with this hilt and not feel out of place.

Only one choke point. Really, you only need the one. Its balance point is right there. The big feel makes this saber want to be wielded single-handed (with enthusiasm) or two-handed. The Dark Sentinel won't be ignored, either way.

Mods: not planning on any. The DS doesn't need 'em, really.

In conclusion, I'm very happy with this acquisition. I opted for the Emerald sound/LEDs, red light AV and non-midgrade blade. All in all, this hilt is an exercise in "quiet power". Any Jedi/Sith/Grey sporting this means to cut through whatever problem they're facing.

I'll post photos in the near future.

Nice review and a great pic. Sentinel yellow is an awesome blade color. I like the DWG pommel on it.

It's heavy. For the reasons above.

Well, in all fairness, the Prophecy V3 is one of the lightest sabers in the US catalog.

Very nice review, Congrats on both, Dark Sentinel V5 and Prophecy V3, hilts.

Well, in all fairness, the Prophecy V3 is one of the lightest sabers in the US catalog.

I think the only thing lighter are the V2's...

It adds a nice accent to an otherwise pretty straight hilt. It also adds a couple of inches, stretching an already long hilt.

Aggressive and spare, my kind of add-on.

A standard Sentinel v5 or LE with the un-anodized Warglaive hilt my be in my future.

Beautiful Dark Sentinel LE V5 you have there. The Dark War Glaive pommel really suits the saber and the yellow is a nice color to the dark hilt.

The DWG pommel is sweet. Looks great on the dark LE hilts. I got one for my dark apprentice and very happy with the look and balance it added to that saber,

Nice saber! I have a v4 stunt in Arctic Blue, and in my order I made for Valentines Day I ordered a DWG and Manticore low pommels, along with the Spectre pommel add on I put on my Dark Apprentice LE v5 just because.

I like how your looks with that pommel and I may just do what you've done.

A formal studio shot of the Dark Sentinel v5, emerald RGBW, v4 sound, red ignition switch, Dark Warglaive Pommel

In blue, for now. Reprogramming the LEDs has been a lot of fun.

I agree with SFD, that's a beautiful picture and I like that the AV switch matches the background
