Title: Darth Nivek spinning thread
Post by: Darth Nivek on April 04, 2020, 08:57:00 PM
Hadn't made a video in awhile so I figured I'd do one today and start this thread, as not to blow up the forum.

Thanks guys, can't wait to do this at night. Also can't wait for my sentinel v4 staff to arrive with two 32" blades. In this I'm using a 36 on my aeon, and a 32 on the initiate side.

I can definitely tell you've been working on your crossovers as well as you had a little bit of a 3-beat weave in there at one point. So huzzah!
And yeah, you will find(let me know if I'm wrong please) plane control will happen much easier taking those 8 inches off the blade.

Thanks finlay! I honestly have no idea exactly what I'm doing, I just watch a few videos of ray park at some conventions lol.
My next course of action will be trying to combine by forward motion rotation with my horizontal motion (behind the back) into one fluid, continuous motion. Once I have that down I want to figure how to do that same sequence in the opposite direction, and then figure out how to switch those direction and change them into two sets of sequences into a consistent, constant form.

Thanks infinit and plane control means balance right ? That's definitely one of the biggest challenges with the double sided, keeping your balance under control.

You're welcome. Plane control means that if you're spinning the saber from side to side of your body, keep it side to side. If you're spinning it from front to back of your body, then keep it between that. These are planes

The video below, my saber moves in front or behind my body staying at one plane. You can switch planes but we typically keep it between one plane so it looks good which is what we can plane control

and to piggy back on Infinit, Here's a plane control drill that I do with staff, and can adapt to sword as well

Finally got a day off after 6 days of work, so thought it'd be a good time to practice. I've been trying to work on plane control you guys mentioned, as much as I can grasp anyway lol

Looking good, just practice, practice, practice. I also recommend focusing on not looking at the camera (since it will keep you spending your energy on spinning) and know where your starting point is. I struggled with not looking at the camera in the beginning. Good stuff, I see lots of improvements

Yeah I keep wanting to do that to watch my movements and it keeps messing me up lol, thanks guys, gonna try and move on to the more difficult ones soon. I still feel I'm just grasping the basics as of now. Sure is a fun hobby though and a great workout too

Hey there, Darth Nivek.  You're starting to blend the planes once again but when I do see you controlling your planes, it looks good. Just keep practicing and keep up the good work

Thanks infinit, I'll keep working on that, you guys make it seem so easy but there's alot of practice and quite the learning curve too it. Here's another I did with dual, I'm usually better about tapping my sabers but for the videos sake I kept it, lol.

I trained for thousands of hours at this point and it was hard at first, more so on my non-dominant hand though but after a while, it just clicks.  I recommend to train on your non-dominant hand as well so it doesn't look like you use only one side.  Keep up the good work, man.

Much appreciated, and that makes sense my left feels a bit uncoordinated. And wow, that's an impressive number for sure, I could see myself doing the same though given some more time, I'm probably at 100 hours maybe lol.
I love saber flow and see much more of it in the future, getting some friends into it too which is alot of fun.

Forgot to post my new dark sentinels so here they are, definitely loving them.
The more I watch my older videos the more I feel like they look silly xD. But I won't delete any for the sake of my little thread here lol. Hope everyone's out doing saber stuff for the season, it's finally warm, hooray!

Sure I'll take a pic when I get home, I actually love using them coupled together as a staff so I think you'll greatly enjoy it

I fight with staffs and teach it i wanted to see how much hand room in keeping with the idea of it being a light saber. Have to remember dont touch the hot parts

Thanks infinit, just like in one of the videos Thomas likes to get in the way lol. Whenever I'm spinning he walks around me and I have to stop lol. There is no fear In him :3
