The differences are superficial. VorNach can attest there is no technical difference in the two uses of the sword. Hopefully Nero will chime in on this as well. It is the similarities that make this stuff possible. A single handed blade style isnot going to be apprciably different from another. If they are legitimate.

Finally getting caught up.
Yes, I can attest to this.  Grin

Really though, what may be drawing some peoples attention away from the core principles and techniques that Master Nonymous is presenting is the structure of the form itself. As Bazzard noted:
in the earlier videos, the actual techniques are pretty similar; it's just that Eastern swordplay styles tend to look a little more......I dunno, 'dressed up'......when performing them.

There's a lot more movement than what we associate with "fencing" in this form.
When taken out of the strip it becomes more dynamic however when put into application it starts to become more linear again.
Here's a "historic" Makashi vs Djem So sample:

That was an awesome vid, reminded me of the previously posted one where you took on Nonymous (Djem So vs Makashi).  Of course it's interesting to see it done with real steel, and makes me wish Artorius wasn't so busy... we could probably make some interesting videos along those lines as well.

When it comes down to it a saber with a long blade combined with the foil fencing technique would have to be the best strategy for duels?
I mean thier are other variations used for guys wearing heavy armour etc but for a game of "tag" which is essentially what ultra saber
dueling is aside from the choreographed fights it would have to be the best technique, I can't see any way around it?

Of course that is for the "tag" like sword play, in the real world a bunch of other factors come into play, not that I'm any martial arts expert
that is why I like your setup nero, the one handed initiate, interesting vids by the way.

It seems my interest in ultra sabers has sparked a flame for martial arts, I am hoping that this flame will help me eat healthier and
exerscise more as well as drinking more water etc, not that I am trying to be a good fighter it's just is amazing what the human body is
capable of.

I have been trying to learn some gymnastic movements and have shot an email to my local gymnastics place, I will probably focus on
the acrobatics side of things more than the actual fighting since I am doing this completly for fun and not skills in defense, but hey I'm
sure I will probably pick some up along the way, it's a shame most of you guys are in the US.

We at TPLA do not play "tag" sabers. We are working on a very realistic set of rules for safe and effective sparring. With a short hilt you sacrifice strength in the blade. Speed and stability are inversely related.

While it might seem that the best option is the yours, others feel the same way. Watch some of our sparring, its all about how you can manage range and rhythm. Anyway that you can do that is an effective technique.

There is no best, only better. And better is a relative term.

It's the swordsman not the sword.
