Title: Saber Transport
Post by: skribs on April 27, 2017, 04:48:40 AM
When you guys are transporting your sabers, do you keep something between them (i.e. towel) to keep them from scratching each other?

Or do you just toss them into your bag willie nillie?

I keep my saber hilts separately  in those laundry bags in hotel closets or those bags from PurpleTie laundry service that my company has onsite.

I transport mine in this, both with and without blades:

I also use a poster/document tube to store and/or transport my blades:

I may have to look into that as well.

For the time being, I just got a really large duffel bag, and I plan to carry them in there.  I was just wondering if I should separate them to keep them from scratching each other.  I'll probably wrap a towel or throw blanket around them just to guard the finishes as best I can.

I would wrap them in microfiber cloths.  I bought these large 14 inch x 14 inch, PLUSH microsoft fiber cloths to polish mine but have also used them to wrap around my hilts to protect them from getting dinged by other objects, like other hilts:

Vibrawipe Microfiber Cloth – Pack of 8 Pieces HIGH ABSORBENT (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NDN4ZE8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

That's something I could ask my Mom to make me for my birthday.  I have a hard time asking for presents because if I want something I prefer to pick it out myself.

On thinking about bag designs, would people prefer the handle to be horizontal or vertical?

Need a "hmmmm" smiley

I use  ::)  for my "hmmmm" smiley    :D

I would say vertical for a handle on a bag like that, and it might help later if you wanted to run a belt or similar strap through it to carry it on your back or around your waist, apart from the covertec wheel style of course, since this would be like a secondary/backup hilt.

LB, that is a BOMB method of transport!  Heh, now I've got yet another item besides my costume to "convince" my wife that I...er, I mean "WE" need  ;)

For me: both.  I think what LB said w/ being to carry it on your back is a smart move and certainly more versatile^^

Its definitely an idea to play with. Lots of fleece and black nylon webbing for straps. Ill have to add it to my project list :D

I remove the blades and wrap the hilts in a towel and carry them in a guitar case/ gig bag. This seems to work well as the gig bag is padded.
I really like that case that LB has, that would be great protection.

Hi all.  We've addressed this topic multiple times but I'll add my usual photo.  Liking the idea of a jumbo tube for blade storage although I keep those fantastic US brown boxes.  ;)  I get mine at Michaels crafts and the case at Canadian Tire... but they have gone up in cost quite a bit.

The tubes are great for taking to a Con as you can stuff a few extra bought items in there.  :)

Someone should link Medwyn's lightsaber box here for a good laugh... especially for the newer members.  ;D

That is ridiculously funny! I still have ALL my Ultrasabers boxes. Don't you guys? They're collectors items, each one so original and a different kind of MHS compatibility that allows you to swap the contents of each box with contents of other Ultrasabers boxes.   :D

Points to Rapine and D7 for mentioning this, and, of course, to Medwyn.  ;)
