I've already e-mailed US about it but I figured I'd ask here if anyone else had the same problem while I wait for their response.

I just got the Manticore w/Obsidian Lite sound literally today and while I love the design of the hilt, I've noticed an issue where approximately 2 seconds after activation the saber will do a random flash on clash, and this will happen both with and without the blade.  It doesn't happen EVERY time but it's actually happening more often than not.

Also of note, and while I don't know if it's designed like this the LED housing is a bit loose and audibly rattles when there's no blade.

A few clips

https://s3.amazonaws.com/scopeguardpony/RandomClashNoBlade.MOV - Clash without the blade
https://s3.amazonaws.com/scopeguardpony/Rattling.MOV - Aaaand the rattling I mentioned.

I don't know about the FoC issue, but I can tell you the rattling is perfectly normal.  All of my V4 hilts do that.  You have to remember, the LED modules are designed to fit inside the V2 hilts, which are thinner.  So, they can move and rattle inside the hilts with a larger diameter.

Oh, well that's a relief.  I had no idea.  Cheesy

Yeah, it was disconcerting to me when I got my first saber, my Initiate LE V4.  However, my Sentinel V4 and Aeon V4 both do that too.  However, the modules are nice and snug in my V2 hilts.  Wink  (slight rattle, but nowhere near as bad as the wider body hilts)  The inner diameters are similar, at least up where the LED module is, but there's still a slight bit more room for it to rattle more in the wider hilts.

You can carefully slide the LED module out and wrap some electrical tape around it several times or a narrow of ring to help with the rattle. Also, make sure you seat the blade all the way onto the LED to help snug it up. That may cure the problem all by itself.

Oh yeah, when the blade's in there's no sign of a rattle.

Ok. The b modules are designed to be held in by the blades, so it's working as it should. My Manticore has the same rattle with no blade. If you're worried or want to eliminate it, try the aforementioned tricks.

Seeing that  it's a common thing and not something broken I'm not going to worry about it.  And besides, I don't really trust myself with removing the LED housing and doing the tape trick.

Now the only issue I'm concerned about is the flash on clash after activation.

Is it happening even with fresh batteries? I can't watch the movies you linked to.

Odd, I set the permissions so that everyone could view them.  o.O

I actually did try fresh batteries when I first got the thing, however they didn't agree with the saber (kept shutting off and restarting) so I replaced them with the original ones.

Edit:  Though upon further thought those batteries MAY be what caused the issue, because the LED kept flickering before shutting off/restarting and at one point actually "glitched" and was stuck at red/pink before I removed them.

US replied, probably the motion sensor.

Gonna fill out the form and send it back for repair.

That was going to be my last option, either a loose wire or bad sensor in the board.  Always start with the easy fix.  My emerald Manticore once had sound but no light in the blade while I was adjusting some colors.  I thought I killed it.  I changed the batteries, and all was right in the world.  It's amazing how many problems can be solved with new/charged batteries.

US will get it taken care of for you, and you'll back to swinging it around in no time.

There is one thing I learned..    For Guardian Blue, having a red flash on clash probably isn't the best idea in the world because I'm afraid it might cause a seizure or two if someone with photosensitive epilepsy happens to be nearby.  x.x
