I've never been a huge 12ga fan.  I inherited a Winchester Model 12 16ga from my father, however, and its a lot of fun to shoot.  Not quite the number of pellets the 12ga has, but still a good amount if you use 04 buck instead of 00 buck.  :-)

My go-to during Pheasant and Quail season was always my grandfathers 16 gauge... I think it's either a Sears and Roebuck or Montgomery Wards model, I'd have to dig it out of the back of the safe to see who made it for them.  It's not a high-dollar gun, not is it anything fancy, it's just a working man's shotgun.  I love that 16 gauge, but you can seldom find any shells for them anymore.

That said, like Ultra stated a 12 gauge with a 3" chamber will do dang near everything... maybe not as well as a purpose built gun, but it does a great job covering all bases.

I'm just worried about recoil mostly. I wish I could try a couple but not sure where you can do that...

Recoil used to scare me until I actually shot the gun, and realized that I am stronger than it is. For me, the biggest thing is actually holding the gun correctly so I don't hurt myself (which isn't that hard if you've ever shot any other rifle).

Just remember to hold the stock tight to your pocket and you won't have to worry much about recoil. Mostly the bad kick is from improperly shouldering the gun and/or not holding it tightly to your shoulder.

Do you need moonclips to shoot 9mm Luger from a revolver, or are there dedicated 9mm drums that don't require them? 9mm is a heck of alot cheaper than any rimmed centerfire that I am aware of, but having to use moonclips isn't all that appealing to me.
No moonclips required for my gun. That is what the chamber (drum) is for.  Grin  The other nice thing about my gun is I have not found ammo that I cant shoot. I bought 3 boxes of 9mm ammo that a friend had for $5 a box because his semi/auto kept getting lammed up. That's 150 rounds for $15, Revolver for the win!  Grin

You don't really need to worry about recoil with a pump action shotgun since you can get reduced recoil shells for them. Steer clear from semi-auto shotguns if you plan to use reduced recoil shells, as they will fail to properly cycle the gun.

Just dropped off the slide for my Glock 17 off for Cerokoting and ordered a new match grade barrel for it. Haven't carried it in about 13 years but thinking about putting it back in service. I bought it new about 27 years ago.

I almost bought an Iver Johnson & Co. .38 revolver, because I had never actually seen one before, I still might buy it later.

Got my new match grade barrel in today from L2D. Got it with both a stainless and black thread protector. But my side of course is still out and sending my frame out later this week for stippling. Now looking at triggers. Bottom line is it will be awhile before it is done Sad

Slide is being coated, frame is being stipple, I have the barrel, and the trigger is on the way. I should have it all put together in a little over a weeks time!
