It's done, they're charging.
The only problem I ran into was, one set of batteries didn't seem to be working the way they should; I'd put them in and the "Obsidian" audio cue would go off, but the saber wouldn't light up - tried the same set in two different sabers, no good. Luckily, all the other batteries seemed to be okay, so it's only the Frankensaber that's without power for now. Later on, I'll check the batteries further and order another set if I need to. Everything else seems to be falling into place.
Pure awesomeness, sounds like it will be very cool... if you're lucky no death battles will ensue as a result. Although your signature seems to imply they are accustomed to lightsabers around and won't engage in warfare immediately following unwrapping them. + point for parental awesomeness level Also a little ashamed I'm only now thinking this, your name just made me think of Jean Grey in Phoenix form wielding a lightsaber... truly horrifying. She's powerful enough, that's the definition of overkill. |

I've created a monster. Several of them, actually.
The Big Reveal of the sabers for my kids was every bit as epic as I hoped it would be; they couldn't believe I had held on to the secret for that long. I showed them how to switch sound fonts and they were off and running - Episode 6 and Ancient Saber are a couple of favorites. My 15 year old loves the Shoto style of the Initiate and is saving up for a Dark Initiate v4 with Bane's Heart.
Once I told them about swapping out emitters and pommels, it was all over but the shouting; we've already got a shopping list going that I'll probably order today, my treat. As for me, I'm waiting until the next raffle and then I'm pulling the trigger - FINALLY! - on the Spectre.
Time to start living our best lives. The long wait is finally over.

I've created a monster. Several of them, actually.
The Big Reveal of the sabers for my kids was every bit as epic as I hoped it would be; they couldn't believe I had held on to the secret for that long. I showed them how to switch sound fonts and they were off and running - Episode 6 and Ancient Saber are a couple of favorites. My 15 year old loves the Shoto style of the Initiate and is saving up for a Dark Initiate v4 with Bane's Heart.
Once I told them about swapping out emitters and pommels, it was all over but the shouting; we've already got a shopping list going that I'll probably order today, my treat. As for me, I'm waiting until the next raffle and then I'm pulling the trigger - FINALLY! - on the Spectre.
Time to start living our best lives. The long wait is finally over.
Sounds great, I could see them going "I like your pommel/emitter better can we trade?" and making some interesting "customized lightsabers" that way. Mixing and matching sure can add that personal touch. Funny that some started getting motivated to buy their own now, that's awesome! Glad your surprise went off without a hitch and was such a hit. That sounds like it was epic fun indeed, and hey no decapitations or severed limbs is always a win right? You will be able to film your own full scale choreographed battle sequences now that you have your own small army. But it's just fantastic they were all so thoroughly pleased, I'm sure that was one serious win for the history books. Hope you got a sick X-mas card photo out of it for next year, or to post to your social media or whatever. |

The order has been placed...a Crimson Dominicide emitter, a Malice emitter, a Dark Dorinian pommel, a Dark Grand Master pommel, and an Archon pommel. Plus a few accessories I needed for my batch. All of it even qualified for a free Initiate, but I haven't told them that yet. Heh, heh. Now let's see how long this takes to ship out... |

It didn't go completely without a hitch; the Archon charging port has a short in it or something, and a wire connecting to the speaker on the Aeon snapped somehow. I've already emailed Ultrasabers about both issues, but my kids are okay with waiting for the repairs, and I have enough extras for them to borrow if need be. But yeah, they thought it was the coolest thing ever. |

It still sounds idyllic, and like you wound up as the hero. Epic Dad moment/family moment for sure, nothing is perfect but that sounds close as it gets in that department. Guess you could surprise the son saving up towards an initiate with the free one if he somehow paid it forward to his siblings, but it's hard to say if he wanted a different version or something. Who knows, but it's still a great story regardless. I envy the interest there, my family never would have gone for such a thing... good on yall for the bonding moment anyway. |
