I just had to tell my five-year-old son, less than an hour after he and my wife opened his Christmas card from his Grandpa, that Grandpa just died.

Today sucks.

You have my deepest sympathies. Give your son a big hug from all of us.

Now to vent:

You ever just find that guy in a thread, or just anywhere for that matter, that lacks the faculties to understand what you're trying to say, or just disagrees, but instead of being an adult about it and at least attempt to disprove your argument, merely libels your thoughts so they don't have think about its potential validity?

Those people drive me nuts. And a big part of wants to just rage post in reply, but I guess it's part of being the better person. Not too better, considering that I'm anonymously griping about their behavior on a public forum. But I feel better getting that off my chest.

My roommate wants to take me to see The Force Awakens and even though I want to see it I'm conflicted due to not wanting my friends to waste their money on me for things I don't need.

There are different ways to view the situation, that won't circumvent your morals. Perhaps it would worth more to your roommate to be able to give this to a SW fan, than it is actually worth to you. It's like when I gave my dad his lightsaber. The giving was almost selfish. Being able to give him the gift, and what it represented to me, was valued more than he actually values the saber. But I'll concede that I'm not acquainted with all the facts of your situation, and this is merely an opinion.

I sympathize with your poor upbringing. I never understood how much my dad sacrificed for the kids until I was an adult. We were poor too. We didn't starve, but my dad and I have the same physiology and we're both ADHD, which equals high metabolisms. I never understood how he managed with so little to eat considering how much it takes me to fill up.

I going to say no anyways, his girlfriend is a big Star Wars fan as well so I just need to convince him I don't deserve such a gift at the moment and then get him to take her instead.

Sadly I really don't feel that I've earned this since I'm still the only one without a job right now.

Out of curiousity, who is this great band, and what exactly do VIP tickets get you that is go great?

Well I do have another friend who is considering getting a saber but he lives far away from me.

This "great" band is Nightwish. A Finnish symphonic metal band and my friend has a huge obsession for that subgenre in heavy metal. He and I have seen the band twice and he will not spend his money on anything else vital to his leisure activities until he buys VIP tickets for this band first.

He's been a SW fan since he was a child, just like me. When I was little and first saw SW I vowed to one day own a lightsaber that looked real so thank the force I found this place and i hoped he had the same dream. Clearly not anymore.

I don't hate this band that he is obsessed with. In fact I like the band too but they're not the love of my life when it comes to music.

These VIP tickets he wants will grant him an exclusive meet & greet with the band. I would love to go with him but the gig he's going to is a 2 hour distance from where I live and takes place during my college semester. He and I are both in college but I have a heavier workload than him and can't take the time off when the gig is to book a hotel and go with him.

The VIP tickets are $185 each and that price is NOTHING compared to the cost of VIP tickets that one of MY favourite bands wants from me if I want to meet them, so there goes that dream.

And while hitting in general may not be the answer, sometimes some people need a good whack upside the head to remind them of what's really important.

One thing I've noticed about VIP tickets and "exclusive" meet and greets is that you always think it's so special and cool and then you discover that there are another hundred plus people with the same "exclusive" tickets so the meeting and greeting lasts about five seconds as the band has a hundred or so people to get through before they can finally get back to their hotel and crash, which is what they really want to do in the first place.

I find the whole meet and greet thing kinda ridiculous...I have been to several concerts and love music, but i can't think of a single artist that I would spend money on just to spend 5 seconds with them. 

I would rather spend my money on my saber collection

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra does this too after ever show.  They're a really fun bunch and usually spend at least 2~3 hours after their show with fans.  Which is a pretty impressive thing to do after a 3~4 hour show, especially one with as much energy as they put in to theirs.

Oh yeah, I love when bands do that! It's just such a cool thing, makes me like them more that they aren't stuck up and above the common people.

^^^Its why I've been wanting to see August Burns Red for a long time. Even during breaks they'll take time to get to know you and stuff and give you a good message and stuff. They're a christian metalcore band but good at it so. I have all their albums to date right now until another one comes up =]
