Title: Fixing loose wire
Post by: Lady Revan on April 23, 2019, 06:49:08 PM
So the red wire is loose in my Diamond Savior and while it is still under warrenty, my waiting on late payments still dictates I cannot afford to send it in with enough time to get it back before I need it for Padawan training May the 4th. All colors that don’t involve red are fine.... but the two colors I absolutely need on it are red and purple, so the red wire is kind of important.

Long story short, I have all the tools to re-solder the wire myself but I’m concerned getting there without breaking anything else between the diamond board and the illuminated AV. How can I safely remove the AV to fully access the wires and then put it back.

Thank you 😭

If the switch is still glued in by Ultrasabers, the best way would be heating the hilt (gently and not directly onto the switch and/or Recharge Port!) until it's getting soft. Then pry it out (again, gently and mask the hilt so that you don't scratch it). If needed, you can cut its wires (mark them before and after the cutting point, that helps with re-soldering) which makes it easier to work with the board and the remaining wires.

Repair the wiring, then re-solder the switch. Heat the glue again, press the switch back into the hole and wait until the glue has cooled down and solified.

Hope I didn't miss anything :D

Switch is still glued. I guess it’s a good thing I still have my heat gun from my armor building then. :( gosh darned glue!

You could try the following if you don't want the glue:
Let the liquid glue flow out of the switch hole. Wrap some electrical tape around the switch (not too thick, just one layer) and turn it into a press-fit. That would make another removal easier.

A hint I saw in another thread...just like the switch removal thing ;)

I don’t mind the glue in general. It just means more pain trying to do things in a time crunch :P

Well, yes, that's true :P Especially if the switch isn't the main problem :P

The problem shouldn't be at the switch, that is just a power source for everything. Are you ethnicity the switch just so you can remove everything out?

Do you know where the wire is lose? On the LED or on the board? I ask because it will be harder to fix on the LED with it attached to the heatsink.

Keep in mind if you do anything to it yourself it will void the warranty on it.
