Title: Mystery box review
Post by: jeff8a on August 18, 2017, 05:54:29 AM
Ordered a $200 Mystery box Monday night and it arrived today.
Paid the extra 10 bucks for the ultra edge heavy grade blade & $34.59 for Fed Ex 2 day shipping.
Here's what I got :

Sentinel V4 [no windows] with Lite sound (Obsidian?)
    Blazing Red
    FOC in Silver
    Silver Non-Illuminated AV Switch
Regular vented pommel (hole in bottom)
    Blade Retention Screw Wrench

Initially I was a little disappointed with what I got. Although it
is cool looking, a Sentinel would not be my first choice TBH.
The pommel with no speaker coverage was a surprise. I thought there was some kind of mistake.

Went back to the US website for some re-checking. The Sentinel retails for 169.99 but then add the wrench, the FOC and the silver AV switch, my light saber came out to $220.99.

US did make good on the guarantee to get a saber that retailed for $200 or more. Most likely me reading reviews from others who bought mystery boxes probably set my expectations too high as there were some really good surprises out there. Plus I was glad I didn't get a model I already had.Turns out the pommel with hole in the bottom is standard.

NOTE: I did not factor in the cost for a ultra edge heavy duty blade because any light saber I'd buy from US would have this type of blade.

Would I buy another mystery box? Maybe. Maybe better to try my luck on a $75 mystery or better yet just buy the exact model I like. Still...this is cheaper than buying guitars.
[/list]

It is a crap shoot. It makes it hard when you see other people scoring some crazy deals out of boxes. Hopefully you will enjoy it more than you think you will, pretty nice saber.

It's a shame you are a bit disappointed with your saber but if you do go the $75 route in the future I wish you luck. :)

Can't see how you'd be unhappy with ANY sound saber. After you start spinning it, come back and tell us your new opinion on the Sentinel. But yes, quite obviously, if you want a specific hilt, order it and don't leave it to chance. Emory even states this in the Mystery Box introduction video.

Also, please visit and acknowledge the rules thread as all other new members have done. It's at the very top of the forum in big red letters. Looks a bit like this:

but without quite so many arrows ;)

Welcome to your new addiction  ;D

If you don't like it, I can PM you with my mailing address.  I can always use another Sentinel.  ;)

Kidding, of course.  Give it some time and it will probably grow on you.  If you duel or spin at all, you can't beat the Sentinel, except maybe with an Aeon.  ;)  They're awesome sabers, very comfortable in the hand.  Also, pictures, or it didn't happen.  ;)

For your next order, you may just want to save up some Republic Credits and get that saber you really want, instead of leaving it up to The Force to decide things for you.  It's worth it, trust me.  :)

I guess if you already own a couple of sabers the sound doesn't matter anymore. Don't be disappointed jeff8a...at least you have a new toy to play with. As for me, I ordered my $75 Mystery box and I am feeling so nervous..I am excited of course, but I just hope I will get ANY sabers with sound since this will be my first saber. :D

That sounds like an excellent saber for dueling though and you can get creative and customize it to be unique.

Yup. Sentinel is a very good saber to have for sure. I love mine. Thinking about getting a full Dark in Blazing Red as well at some point. Definitely a good dueling saber for sure too. Hope the saber grows on you over time =]

I ordered the $200 mystery box and received a Dark Apprentice in BR FOC Windows AV. Love the saber but like you got the open pommel. Ordered the vented pommel from the Dark Shock which should blend in nicely and give me a little extra length. Will send pics.

Congrats on your new saber! That sounds like a great saber to have. I'm sure after using it, you will begin to enjoy it more. It can be misleading watching others open their mystery boxes and receiving top notch sabers, but they always give you something valued more than you spent. So, it's always a win.

Lol lol lol sorry, that was funny!

UPDATE:

I dropped my saber and now there's a crack at the blade and the tip.

Is this guaranteed or am I SOL??

Yes I wrote [email protected] and asked already.

I just know this place has more people that are familiar with US and is more immediate in answering.

That's a big no. The warranty only covers the parts as far as non-use defects. Like if your board spontaneously shorts, or the LED burns outs. Stuff like that. But damage caused by use is not covered. Otherwise people would beat the hell out of their sabers in the first year and demand replacements.

Luckily for you, blades are relatively cheap.
