Though a Used Car Salesman with morals is a needle in a haystack, NEW car salesmen are ten times worse. I've also come to realize I will never EVER buy a "new" car again thanks to insurance costs, interest rates, loan payments, depreciation, taxes, and many other hidden fees that make it so the $23,000 compact you just bought actually costs you $42,000 by the time you're done paying off the seven year loan you were forced into to keep your payments affordable, only to discover your car is now worth less than $5,000 no matter how meticulously you took care of it (though if you trade it in, you'll see it back up for sale for $14,000 three days later.)
Not that I'm bitter or anything about the last new car I bought...
Of course now my daily driver is a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis with a 4.6L V8, I'm averaging roughly 20-21mpg around town, if I do a highway trip I'm getting around 26-27mpg.
Did I mention I have over 200,000 on this car, it was a one owner, and I paid $150 for it? It sat in a garage for 18 months after a gentleman's (original owner) wife died, so he was ready to sell it. He wanted $300, and I pointed out that I needed to put 4 new tires on it, so he said $150 and it's mine.
Hope it lasts like my '92 Ford Conversion Van did, I had almost 300,000 when it finally croaked, and it could have been avoided had the warning light in the dash that told me I had 0 oil pressure not been burned out. By the time I was aware of the lack of oil moving in the engine, the damage was done.
Pulled over to snap this photo when it happened.
