Because long ago there used to only be 10 months; October being #8. Sept = 7, Nov having something to do with 9, and Dec = 10. July was added and named for JULius Caesar and August after Caesar Augustus (I think).
Latin. The reason is Latin. The names come from the Latin words for 7, 8, 9, and 10. VII (septem)
VIII (octō)
IX (novem)
X (decem) The addition of months named for Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus is correct. |
