Post by: SparHawk ByA on December 06, 2019, 09:04:11 PM
Ok I was just in using the diamond software to play with the sounds and color when the saber just disconnected itself. I thought it might have been the batteries so I charged them and still nothing. Its completely dead. Its only a month old. and I havent used it cause its been hidden from the kids.......grrr . any ideas? I get nothing when I install the batteries. >:(

Was your saber plugged into the computer when it died?

If it was, then the program did not exit the saber board correctly. You will want to make sure the batteries are fully charged from now on before plugging into the computer. Charge them and then plug back into the computer.  You might have wiped all info off the board by not disconnecting the saber properly.
Batteries fully charged, saber turned on and plugged into the computer, what does the program do or say?

You might need to have it plugged in and turn the saber  on and off until the program connects to it, or recognizes the saber. Once you have it connected to the program, run a diagnostic on the saber. That will tell you if your fonts were corrupted. If they were,  you will need to reset your saber to factory defaults. The button to do that is in the diagnostics menu and is only usable after you run diagnostics on the saber.

Let me know if that helps you with the problem?

Plug the saber into your laptop and pull up the software

Ok I'll plug the batteries in and make sure they are charged up and let you know what happens. Thank you for the help so far.

I'm really curious if you got this problem fixed or not. If you didn't I want to help you figure it out!

I would hate to be without a working diamond saber. Especially if I just got it.

So I'll explain a little more throughly.  I had my saber die while plugged into the computer, after I first got it. I was spending way to much time working on color sequence and didn't think about the batteries at all.  The batteries died on me while it was plugged in still. I did not disconnect the saber and exit the program correctly.  Everything on the saber was erased.
So no ON sound or lights illuminating. No IDLE HUM sound and no lights illuminating.  No OFF sound and no lights...you get the picture. For all intents and purposes, my saber looked and acted dead. With freshly charged batteries I tried to turn on the saber. Nothing happened. I was stressed out and walked away from it for an hour to cool off. When i came back to the saber, the batteries were dead again.
I realized at that point I had turned on my saber and left it on. Even though it looked like it was dead, I had infact powered it on and left it on.  Then it hit me that everything was erased, but the saber was still working fine.
So I plugged back into my computer and turned on the editing program. Nothing happened. I tried pressing the saber's power button a couple of times and the saber connected to the program finally.  I was happy to see that my guess was correct.  I had erased every font off the board by accident.  So I reloaded a font, disconnected the saber correctly and gave it a try. The saber worked perfectly!

So I hope you have a similar problem and not something worse!
Let us know if you fix it!

Thanks for your concern. I am still working on it. I had the batteries charging overnight and have 2 green ights on the charger so I know they are fully charged. I did just what you did and think the same thing happened. I havent had a chance to sit down and mess with it yet. Im going to try tonight. I have had a lot going on over the weekend. I will keep you posted. its acting exactly like what you said. i dont know if its on or not because i have no sound or lights at all. I didnt want you to think I had given up. just in the process of buying a new house at the same time.....lol

What Kaiser said, I did that a few times when I first got a Diamond board saber.

Ok its back up and running as it was. Thank you all for the help!! Turned out it was just a really stubborn battery that didnt want to charge. I have more ordered so hopefully that will solve that problem....lol  Thank you again. Now I just have to figure out how to load sound fonts. But thats a question for another tread. Points for all! ;D

That is good to hear it was something simple!
Hopefully my little story impressed on you how important it is to charge your batteries BEFORE you plug into a computer.
 Have a great day!

Great to hear that it was just something cheap and easy to replace,  SparHawk

And this is why you get the recharge port (well, one reason). You can have the saber plugged in while connected to the computer and not have to worry about the batteries running out.

Please tell me you got your Li-Ion 14500 cells (the 3.7v AA batteries) from a reputable seller... please?  There are some real scam artists out there who will sell you re-packaged old cells as new, and they won’t even test them.  Some folks sell unprotected cells as protected cells.  Some will even re-wrap cheap off-brand cells (or used cells, to be honest) with brand-name packaging from names that you SHOULD be able to trust.  So since poorly-treated lithium-ion cells can overheat and actually explode (You remember the fuss about Samsung phones, vape pens, and hoverboards? Poorly-treated and/or cheap lithium-ion batteries), I’m really careful about who sells me these things, and I tend to get a little overwrought here on the forum harping about the topic.

And this is another reason to get a recharge port. You don't have to worry about changing the batteries or getting the wrong ones, or getting exploding ones, or anything like that. Well, you'll probably need to replace them eventually, but if they're properly taken care of, that's going to be a lot of years away.

Seriously, if you're going to get the very best of everything else for your saber, get a recharge port too. Heck, anything above Obsidian LITE, get a recharge port. It just makes everything better.
