Title: Magnets and stunt sabers, oh my
Post by: Abyss on March 09, 2016, 11:45:30 PM
So, magnets and electronics don't like to mix, and it would be a pretty bad idea to stick magnets near a sound board. But what about stunt sabers? Is there some hidden circuitry there which could be messed up by magnets in close proximity? I'd like to be sure before I go throwing magnetic clasps around my Apprentice.

I'd seen those topics in a search, unfortunately, they don't answer my question. The first one confirms that magnets fry soundboards, and the second barely talks about the effect of the magnet on the lightsaber itself, only the utility in using it to mount the saber. This thread talks about magnets as well but doesn't confirm my question: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=28034.0

Magnets are a danger to sabers with sound. But are they a danger to stunt sabers?

I'm trying to think how, and I'm not coming up with any ideas.  Speakers are electromagnets, so the presence of a static magnet would interfere with their operation.  The rest of a saber, I believe, is just a simple circuit, so having a (relatively non-moving) magnet nearby wouldn't affect it.

But!  I haven't looked at a circuit diagram and I went into software not electrical engineering, so don't quote me on this.

If your Apprentice has neither Obsidian not Emerald, I think you should be good to go.  The definitive answer would be to email [email protected] though.
