Even if you don't like the content...got to admit the actual quality of writing is much better than just about all the new stuff.
I'll concur. I'm 2 years (I think) into reading Outcast, from the
Fate of the Jedi series. I'm bored as hell with 2/3 stories taking place, but not going to puke over how pretentious the writing style is.
For those of you wondering, the stories are:
1) Luke has been exiled from the Republic, and his son,
Ben, has elected to go with him, to discover what special Force techniques Jacen learned before turning to the dark side.
2) Along with Luke's exile, the Jedi Order has been put on oversight. Jaina, along with her boyfriend (who happens to be the emissary of the Imperial Remnant
[who's actually pretty cool]) and a team of specialist friends endeavor to break Valin Horn out of prison for hallucination induced rampage through the the streets of Coruscant.
3) Kessel is falling apart, and there are these trippy, seemingly semi-sentient balls of light that have constructed massive bombs that are set to cause a chain reaction to destroy the entire planet. Meanwhile Lando stands to lose everything due the impending destruction, so he calls in the Solos for help and they reach out to a bunch of pilot characters that I can only assume gained notoriety in the Rogue Squadron and the Yuuzhan Vong series.
I like 2, because it showcases that although Jedi, Jaina is by no means a by-the-book goody two-shoes.
