I have some stupid thing giving me a cough and fever. It aches like a devil but it's only 100 right now so I'm going to try and get away with leaving it alone. If it stays at 100 into tomorrow morning I might call in sick.

I empathize with the cough. I coughed until I vomited while the doctor said I was over the infection, but the cough could last 2 more weeks. But, for some reason, I never have a fever. My base temp is 97.5. I'm sick at 98.5 and don't go past that. I have other mutations I won't go into. I am sorry you're sick. I shall meditate and attempt to aid your fast recovery.

Take care of yourself DJ! Stay hydrated and keep the Advil/Tylenol handy if you can suck it up without going to see the physician. Best remedy is rest for the body even a 30min nap during your lunch hour helps.

I woke up with--so far--no fever. Which is pretty crazy considering it hit 102 right before I went to bed, when I finally caved and took a Tylenol. Still haven't quite made up my mind, but I may well be OK enough to go to work.

If you're coughing and have fever, you're probably contagious. Do yourself (and the rest of the office!) a favor and stay home until you're well!  I take Zicam (which is essentially just zinc and C) when I get sick and it usually knocks it out in a day or two. Maybe try that? Hope you get well fast! In venting news . . . I really, REALLY despise it when coworkers bring their children to work. I've been asked to do bookkeeping for the music store, but I was trying to learn the program today with a 5-year old talking my ear off the entire time. Today is literally the only day I have to learn it until next Saturday, so I was pretty pissed after about an hour. I might have gotten a little General Snark with that kid. Oh well.  |

Are you against taking medicine? My coworker refuses to take anything when he gets head aches. My only thought is that he thinks so negatively about pharmaceuticals that he doesn't trust them. That, or he fears becoming dependant on pills, which obviously doesn't happen on 2 pills. Or, he's stubborn. Just want your take |

I'm not...it's actually an empirically tested tactic. It has to do with the scientific research on fevers. Research is showing that a fever below 102 or 103, depending on what site you look at, is therapeutic and helps you kick the infection faster. If it hits that point (starting to get close now), I'll take something. By that point the Tylenol probably won't bring it all the way back down to normal, so some will still be left to do its work. |

That's how I see it too - fever is to control not to extinguish, it does a great job dealing with the infection. Of course if it goes too high for too long that needs some intervention but overall I find the human body pretty capable of healing itself from a lot of things. |
