Title: TLJ did something terrible (no spoilers)
Post by: Bluelightsaber on December 15, 2017, 11:02:46 PM
It ruined my love for Star Wars and lightsabers. Something I’ve enjoyed and been obsessed with for years has single handedly been snuffed out. I hate to give up this hobby and the dreams of having a diamond saber but now it just has no meaning for me :(

If you are giving up your lightsaber, I call first dibs. 8)

Well let’s just hope JJ does with 9 what he did with 7. I had the same feeling after the prequels and it took ten years to get hyped again.

I will take your sabers gladly. I loved TLJ and I still love lightsabers and Star Wars.

I liked TLJ. Only thing ruining my love for the franchise is Ultrasabers itself

You're only here to rant about US? Wow. What a life.

No, I'm only here to maintain a presence until such a time as either the item I ordered arrives (and, on the off-chance that it comes before Xmas as was promised, functional and mostly as I ordered it, I'll apologise and go away), or I receive a reply (not even a satisfactory one, just a reply in general) to the many emails I sent asking what's going on, or I receive a refund of the money I spent.

I want this resolved, and I'd prefer to resolve it with the company itself, but they don't seem interested in my business now that they have my money

EDIT: Or until I am banned from the forums, in which case I'll know that my money was well and truly wasted

EDIT AGAIN: They just changed the status of my order. It's still processing, but delivery has gone from "GUARANTEED BY XMAS" to "***NOT***GUARANTEED BY XMAS," so we're making the opposite of progress now

I can attest to Ultrasabers’ product quality is fantastic but what’s the issue? What’s tracking say?

I don't really doubt the quality of the product. I knew a guy few years back had two, and they were rather cool when I saw them, I just felt it was pertinent to specify that a functional version of what I ordered was a condition, not a burnt up factory QC reject. I don't think they'd send one, but if they did, I didn't want some wiseacre saying "well, you never specified it be functional," y'know?

As for the issue, well, it's been processing for far longer than it should, and has gone from "GUARANTEED BY XMAS" on the email confirmation to "***NOT*** GUARANTEED BY XMAS" on my order status page, and all emails I've sent to inquire as to what the hold up is have been ignored.

I think we can all understand your disappointment. But to hijack *every* thread you can find with another disparaging remark, does not actually accomplish your goal of making US look poorly. In fact, the only entity is makes look bad, is you.

Very particular seeing that but not going to spoil anything.

I also didn't like how the lightsabers looked in this film. They looked short and with weird tips.

I haven't seen it yet, but everyone I know who has loved it.  I'd love to know why you hated it so much that it ruined Star Wars in general for you.

If there is a movie out there that exists on its own and it sucks, even if you were really hyped for it, you can get over it pretty quickly. Hey a single movie sucked. But Star Wars is an entity I think about every day and get excited about. Not just for the movies but the action figures and the lightsabers and Ultrasabers I'm going to get etc. It felt like a part of my life. Something to always be excited for. So when you have a movie in a franchise like that that sucked bad, ruined all the potential and plotpoints from the previous ones, wastes your favorite characters etc, permanently changing things for the worse, you just get turned off Star Wars then go back and look at the old movies and think well none of these matter any more because it ends up sucking. Think of a book that has a great first 75% but the ending completely kills any good that came from the first 75%, because it's all connected. You can't enjoy the first 75% if you know the ending sucks and all your favorite characters and plot points are going to get wasted and thrown away.

There are two main reasons why it ruined it for me

1) it was a bad movie as a movie

2) it does what I just said which is ruin a lot of potential and characters for me

You do know that many lightsaber had blade adjustment knobs that could alter the length of the blade, right? The Graflex had one under the bunny ears. You wouldn't want a broadsword if you're in close quarters (like a small hut) or if you're 5'2".

TLJ pissed me off, too, but it didn't ruin Star Wars for me.  The Prequels already did.

What this did is ruin Disney Star Wars for me.

Yes, TLJ totally had Disney's fingerprints all over everything but oddly enough I still didn't mind the porgs. I enjoyed the movie but it's not one I feel the need to see again in theaters and certainly not near the top of my favorites list either.

I didn't care for how characters from originals were handled in TFA as it undid lessons the characters already learned and taught us. The prequels didn't ruin anything for me, they were a different type of saga that served their purpose of showing the failures that led to the building of the evil Empire through high minded shortsightedness and political idealism that historically fails as much in real life as this fantasy. The Darkside(evil) tempts us all with what we think we want to our own downfall. The prequels didn't stand the same as the originals, but that's part of why Lucas chose to tell his idea of the originals first. TLJ seemed a bit shallow to me. I enjoyed it, but it doesn't live up to the originals and needs much propping up to fill in the potential plot holes. However, I see a theme of overconfidence causing each side losses. They applied a sense of humor to the villains that weakened things to me. Snoke is powerful, but his presence wasn't. If JJ brings nostalgia to the next film, that may satisfy the feelings of many fans, but I sorely missed the core character heart stolen from the original film characters. As there are none left, I am just not that into the new characters established. The only one I've connected to is Finn. Though, I can't tell if he's supposed to be in love with Rey or just a strong bond of friendship. I wasn't feeling anything to warrant Rose kissing him. So, she got to go on a mission with a hyped up hero. Stop him from saving everyone and kiss him?

TFA already violently pushed me into a state of "Disney is fan fiction" that TLJ didn't bring me back from. I just find myself mulling it all over without much inspiration. The return in general has gotten me reading the books to find the books written (in the years before Disney's purchase) are much more in line with the heart and feel of the characters from the originals.

They also told you where blue milk comes from!

Green.

Well, I loved it.  I felt the same excitement I felt as a child who saw it for the first time at a very young age.  Hate it if you want.  That's your right.  But letting one movie ruin an entire experience for you?  Okay, man.  I don't get it.

C'mon, seriously? If TFA didn't outright murder and piss on your love of SW then surely this movie couldn't have done worse. Honestly, even despite my utter hatred of what Disney has done to my beloved franchise, even I enjoyed this movie for the most part. Hell, I even got a new contender for my all-time favorite scene.

Green.
No, I think it was supposed to be a throwback to the blue milk.

Oh, it's definitely a throwback to Luke's blue milk on Tatooine, but it was clearly green in TLJ.

Given his (eventual) reaction to being handed his first/Anakin's saber, I'm guessing he threw it away.

<kidding> Because he has it when he returns to the Ewok village. (But made you look. :P)

But he probably did get rid of it.

What I didn't get is that when Luke manifested the image of himself in the appearance that Kylo last knew (shorter and darker beard, etc) why wouldn't he have had his green saber? If Kylo was paying any attention (like the saber enthusiasts were) he would have realized that the saber Luke was holding onto had just been destroyed 20min prior. Duh.

Ben was so enraged at seeing Luke, he wasn't paying too much attention to the saber or the fact that he looked a bit younger with less gray in his beard.

What comes after "The Return of the Jedi" is rubbish in MY OPINION

George Lucas and LucasArts came up with an amazing storyline after RtJ. Thrawn, Zahn Consortium, Ysanne Isgard, the Yuuzhan Vong, The New Republic, Thousands of comics, hundreds of books...

Gone... just like that...

What I heard, I dont know if its true, but when Lucas was selling the rights of Star Wars, he had a large binder with an outline of what happens after the Return of the Jedi and the Disney rep literally threw the binder in the trash in front of him. That is what I heard...

Thrawn is in the current canon..and is just as awesome as he has always been.  But no, Lucas brought his ideas for a new trilogy to Lucasfilm way after the deal was done and they decided to not use it.  No overly dramatic chucking in the trash.  People have to remember though, the person in Charge of Lucasfilm..Kathleen Kennedy...worked for Lucasfilm directly under Lucas for the last few Decades...she had his endorsement to be in charge of Lucasfilm.  Lucas Jar Jar Binked us.
