A friend of mine who has a serious, ongoing medical condition seems to be struggling even worse with it lately. I don't want to put any personal/identifying details because I don't want even the slightest chance of this person seeing me worrying to this degree, but I am getting much more worried for my friend of late and I am not sure this person is going to make it through 2016. I hate knowing that my friend is going through hell. I don't know that their body can take too much more of this, and I know that it has been the cause of so much spiritual weariness as well. I don't know what to hope for. I am sorry to sound like I'm misapplying a quote, or being irreverent, but it honestly describes how I feel when I think about it: it's tearing me apart.   I hope you and your friend both find peace. You don't need me to tell you that it's difficult to go through this sort of thing, since you're going through it. Just as you take comfort in knowing you've got as much support here as you want, remember that you're making your friend feel better knowing that you care. |

I haven't been as active the past couple weeks but I have been keeping up with things and I am sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time DJ. It says a lot about the awesomeness of your character that a friend's problems can affect you so much, they are lucky to have someone that cares as much as you do. I hope they get to feeling better soon, for their own well being, and so you can start feeling better as well.

You know, a crazy part of me almost wonders if that kind of thing could be an atavism (if it's not at all deliberate). Ever notice that out of all primates, humans have their signals reversed? Any other primate, a smile is a threat display and a laugh is a signal of distress. (No insult meant...this is just my weird mind at work overthinking everything.  ) We actually don't deviate that far from this trend. I've was told long ago that tickling is perceived as an attack which would make the ensuing laughter a true sound of distress. |

I'm only ticklish on one very odd part of my body and only on one side of it, but if anyone dares to try it? They're getting punched. And my laughter will come at the expense of their pain. That being said, I hate it when I inform someone that I'm not ticklish and they immediately start scratching all over me like, "Are you SUUUUURE?" Yes, I'm freakin' sure. But what I'm not so sure about is your survival if you don't stop that immediately. |

I'm unfortunately very ticklish, and I suspect that goes with the idea that light or unexpected touch can almost be overwhelming to me. That's something my parents used to be real jerks about when I was growing up, even saying some things I still remember and find hurtful. I couldn't explain, nor did they believe that it just didn't feel comforting like I think they meant it. (In contrast a strong, decisive hug, a cat kneading on me, etc. is fine, and giving me warning also helps a lot too so I don't have a startle reaction.) So, this friend of mine started hanging out with this guy and I'm starting to notice some weird things. Everything my friend does, this guy does. I mean, it's a creepy level of similarity. It's not just "oh, we have these things in common!" Thus far, the new friend has:
Joined my friend's gym
Joined his art class
Gotten into the same fandoms he's into
Cosplayed the same characters
Decided he needs to "start" getting tattoos (my friend has a sleeve)
Eats at the same places my friend eats
Drinks the same beer my friend drinks
Listens to the same bands my friend likes
I want to be like, "HEY, STALKER ALERT!!!" I mean, that just seems odd to me. Why is this guy copying everything my friend does? Be your own person, dammit.

Yeah that's past the point of being okay. Bringing in new interests ins one thing, but completely adopting your friends lifestyle is..odd to say the least. |
