Title: My Hero Archon
Post by: tx_tuff on January 14, 2018, 10:34:48 PM
I have the Archon V3.1 and really loved it but right off the bat I thought the Triangle-Ring was two small so I found and bigger one and installed it a little while back.

Also I always wanted an activation box to make it look like Luke's Hero saber.

TCSS has a plan activation box so I bought me one, at the time the only card insert they had was red but went ahead and ordered it too. The top in the box I painted with a gold leaf paint, the card I paint black and used the same gold leaf paint to add the gold to the card. This is the back of the card.

I found some triangle earrings to use for the "lights" but I had to grind them down because they were to big and paint them. The only thing I could find the right size for the black switch was an magnet that I had to also paint.

Once I had everything put together on the box it was time to tap and drill the hilt to add the box. I have never tap and drilled anything before so I bought a aluminum pipe to practice on first. Did it with no problem so went ahead and added it to the saber.

Now the activation box doesn't work, it is just for looks. The AV switch will runs the saber, I didn't mess with the electronics at all. But I also painted the AV switch to camouflage it and have it blend in better with the hilt. You can see that on the last picture.

What does everybody think? Tx this is AWESOME!  I LOVE what you did!  Like you, I prefer the Archon v3.1 WITH activation box but you made it look like the actual movie prop!  Outstanding job my friend!

-1 for you  :)

Very well done my friend! I love how smooth everything looks. Great work with the camo and the box you nailed it with this.

Wow everybody I really appreciate all the kind words! So many people in here do great custom work on their sabers so I give credit to them for giving me the balls to try some of the stuff I do.

I don't know much about the SW connection to this saber.  Not a great fan of the raised square activation box or of greeblies in general.  But I really like what you have done and appreciate the evolution and clean lines.  Would be proud to have this beauty in my collection.

Yes we all take ideas for customs from one another... and venture forth.  ;)

well done point  8)

The box definitely doesn't make it easier to handle or do spins etc with. But with the thin neck already and the fact that I have other sabers that are better for that anyway I decided to make it more a looker then fighter LOL.

All that being said I can still change the emitter (I have a V2.1 emitter) and take off the box if need be. That is the best thing about it.

Thanks for the kind words.

Have to agree with Tx: modding an activation box for the Archon v3.1 is super sexy  :D

I am a bit nervous drilling into my saber.  Also, I don't know what to use for the tiny green and red buttons on the side of the box.  8)

Yeah like I said I bought a aluminum pipe to practice the tap and drill before I did it to my saber! I did it free hand without a vice, just make sure to use a punch before you try to drill to keep the drill bit from moving around.

It was hard to try and find simmering to use for the triangle lights. One thing I thought of was using the ones off of a toy saber, cams close to trying this.

looks good. I modified a 2.1 with a habd made graflex clamp and it really helps it pop. The archon just needs that little pop...

Look at the emitter, you cab see how shallow the top of it is, that is how far the blade goes in.

I ordered the crews the same time as the box, TCSS stated 4-40 under the info part of the box so that is what I used. I ordered a tap and drill set off of Amazon to make the screw holes. Make sure the kit has a set that small, I ordered the set before and had to order the 4-40 part separate because they set didn't come with it.
