So I might now go as a Shadow Trooper for Ohio Comic Con. But I never got the point of the Shadow Troopers. Can someone fill me in? Did they have blasters and such? If so then I might be even more badass and go as a Shadow Trooper. xp

I would put their badass-ness somewhere between terror troopers and normal stormies. Not very badass, but still pretty badass.

I have a secondhand set of Black Stormtrooper Armor that I believe is supposed to be one of these, though the previous owner modded it up with a few blinkies for the ab plate and the thermal det. I can assure you Shadow Stormies are quite badass. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered dispatching one and stealing his armor. ;D

I can't be any of them not even with the economy costumes. u.u It only goes to size 44-46 and my waist isn't that big. x.x This really sucks. Amazon doesn't even have any good ones. Might as well do the Spider-Man one like planned unless I can still find something.

I might just have to go with a printed jumpsuit version. u.u Oh well. It'll still be a good costume either way. I'm not all into big fancy expensive costumes just as long as I getta have fun you know.

I found my Clone Trooper costume on Amazon so I'm good to go. xp It has some bad reviews but you can't always listen to them until you get the costume and try it yourself ya know. The one I'm getting comes with the helmet, gloves, and even belt. :D Its from Rubies.

From what I understand, just about anyone of any size can wear armor. The trick is you have to adapt it. Most good Stormie Armor comes in a kit, so you'd have to either find a shadow trooper kit or a stormie kit that you'd then paint black yourself. I recommend looking for a source through the 501st site. Might be a little pricey, but it should be better than what you find on an ebay search. lol As I understand it, you trim the armor pieces to your size as you assemble them, and the only piece I saw on my set that really affected waist size was the belt. That would be very easy to expand with an extra piece of plastic too, or could be replaced with a vinyl or leather belt you could make yourself easily enough. I'm pretty small in the girth department, but the guy who had my set originally must have been about three times my size or more. I'm SURE you could get a set rigged up to fit you. Just a matter of a small amount of work, which would mostly be getting a black jumpsuit in your size and making the right sized belt. The rest should be pretty easy as best I can tell. Could be wrong though, but still. It LOOKS like it would work to me. :)

EDIT: Rubies is good for economy costumes, but if you're buying anything super expensive with their name and the words ultimate or deluxe on it you might want to think twice. lol

Dude. I don't really care to have a high price fancy costume. I just do it for FUN. Don't worry. The costume I'm getting is good quality. Only thing I'll be painting is the blaster to all black. That's why my Jedi and Sith costumes were simple.

lol I figured, I just thought I'd toss it out there in case you might want to try the more serious ones. They're sometimes cheaper than you'd think. :)

Eh. I just do costuming for fun. Which I might get the costume early. :D I hope I do. I'll post some preview pics of the costume if I get it. Well, after I get the blaster and re-paint it to black. But thanks anyway. =]

And I can do a Clone Trooper after all. The one I found has a one size option and that usually fits anyone. I'm 5 5 at 165 pounds. So that'll fit no problem plus its way cheaper for that size option. I'll only need 40 bucks so I could get the costume ordered next week then. I hope I do. =] I'll get pics up if I'm able to get the costume early and when it comes in same with the modded blaster.

Getting my blaster next week. Its the one that makes lights and sounds. I'm going to re-paint the blaster to black but going to keep the light window visable so it feels as realistic as possible. xp Yes the lights glow blue so that's cool, it'll match the certain Clone Trooper costume I'm getting. I already got the gloss black spray paint tonight so I don't need that anymore. I'll keep more updates as I get the rest of the stuff for my costume. I have a 39 1/2 waist by the way. I should be able to do the one size fits all option or if I have to the standard option. I'll keep looking at the measurements though.

Sweet! Something else to keep in mind, should you ever get bored and want a future project. I dunno about with clone blasters... but at least with the stormtrooper blaster, there are LOADS of resin upgrade parts and kits out there that are very affordable (if you are patient and / or shop around a little) that you can screw or glue onto the cheap toy blasters to make them look more realistic. Stuff like how the old Hasbro Stormie Rifle didn't have the clip on the side, or didn't have the stock, etc. Just neat little add on detail parts that help give you an extra notch of cool while keeping things on the cheap. :)

I kinda like the Clone Trooper blaster I'm getting. Its the Captain Rex model but when painted it'll be the same either way. I'm just surprised to see walmart still have the Clone Trooper blasters, online anyway. Can't wait to get it. xp When my grandma gets back from Florida if I get the costume by then first time we go visit her I was going to nerd it out and go in costume. Lol. I was Ghost Face last year before they left and it kinda freaked her out. Lol. So yeah. I don't care to have big fancy costumes or props. I only do it for fun.

     Just out of curiosity, what kind of paint are you going to use on the blaster? I have had no luck painting stuff like that. I have painted Warhammer models with model paint but they do not get handled much so the paint stays put. I have tried painted props with the Krylon Fusion stuff that is meant for plastic and had no luck, it rubs off with mild handling. The only kind of paint I have successfully used is a paint used for fireamrs called Duracoat. It is an epoxy paint that smells awful, takes weeks to fully cure (literally), and is kind of expensive (about $30 for a single color kit that you have about 4 hours of time to work with before it hardens in the bottle)...but it does work well and holds up like it claims. If I had an airbrush set up I might use it more often, but the kits are such a waste for just doing one prop. If I had an entire platoon of Stormies to outfit, it would be  perfect. Maybe I can draft every kid on my block into the Stormtrooper Corps!
     Anyway, I just thought I would ask what you intend to use since you like to go economical (I totally respect that) and seem like you are no stranger to costuming. What have you had luck with?

Get Krylon Plastic paint. The type that bonds with the plastic. Can't miss it. Also get the clear coating incase you use your blaster a lot so the paint don't come off. I got gloss black for my blaster project.

I used that Kyrlon Fusion and clear coated too, but had no luck. Not sure what I did wrong. That was why I went with the Duracoat. I was happy with the finish from that but it was very expensive and wasteful. I could have painted about 5 blasters with that one kit.

I hope you have better luck with the Krylon than I did. Sounds like you know what you are doing..better than I did! Not the first time I messed something up, won't be the last either!  :D Would love to see pictures of the finished blaster.

You probably sprayed too close. You gotta have the can like 5 feet away I think. My step-dad used Krylon on my Dominix Shroud and it worked okay for us.

Well then, that would be what I did wrong. I was holding the part in one hand and the can of paint in the other. I know my arm is not 5 feet long  :D I will keep that in mind for my next attempt.

Yeah. If you hold the can too close the paint will drip and just not look right. You doin a Hasbro Clone Trooper mod like I am? xp

No, this was on a cheap dollar store toy gun which is what made using that expensive paint even more silly. The Fusion did not work and I was too stubborn to give up. Not even sure where that blaster is anymore. Probably buried in a Rubber Made box in my basement. I am always tinkering with stuff so I like to gather information as it comes along.

Not to give out other stores but since it might be okay just go to walmart.com, type in captain rex electronic blaster. That's the best way you can go if you want it to feel even more real. The blaster makes sounds and lights up. I'm getting one next week then when the blaster gets in I will be re-painting everything to black but the light windows. I know for a fact that gun is real plastic because its basically a Nerf gun. But I won't be using the darts that comes with the blaster. Lol. I'm actually surprised walmart still sells those things, online anyway. That way next time you won't feel like your money is wasted. xp

Actually (not to de-rail your thread but since we are talking about this stuff) I am working on a little different blaster build. I recently picked up a 110v welding machine. I have not welded anything in a while but I have been playing around with it. I started making a very simple blaster prop out of scraps of metal I found at work. I am no blacksmith and I have not welded anything in about 6 years but this is actually coming out pretty nice. I have been taking pitures of it at different stages. When it is complete in a few weeks, I will post pictures of the entire build, start to finish. To give you an idea of what it will look like, think Jango Fett on a budget. :D

Nice. Can't wait to see the blaster. better than what I will be doing. xp Oh well. I'm on a tight budget for the entire costume so yeah. But I'll like the end result of the modded blaster anyway.

Might be getting my Clone Trooper costume/blaster tomorrow if the court papers aren't too much! :D I mean getting them both at once. I hope I can. xp I won't post action shots until the blaster is re-painted but I'll post preview pics of the costume when it comes in. I'll keep updates. =]

Getting the Clone Trooper blaster later today (Ohio time), the costume later in the summer. Probably July or August. But I'll have the blaster done and ready ahead of time. =] I'll post a video when the blaster gets in then the mod video.

Also having big trouble figuring out costume sizes. x.x I looked up one size option and someone said that means it fits everyone. But then the company is saying that it only goes up to a 36 inch waist. So I'm just confused and not really wanting to do the costume and just the blaster. x.x

Blaster has been ordered and it gets here next Tuesday. Already know the shipping date. Lol. I'll post the modded pics here. Can't wait for you guys to see the blaster done and painted. =]

Just a question? Which kind of Shadowtrooper were you going to be?

There are regular stormtroopers with matte-black armor that are sometimes referred to as "Shadowtroopers" . There are also a special set of stormtroopers who can use the force due to special crystals and wield red lightsabers; they have a completely different armor setup that a normal stormie.

I'm doing Clone Trooper after all. The squad with the blue on the front.

The group probably wouldn't approve of the outfit but I don't really care. I'm just getting the costume to have fun with. I'm not a try hard or anything. xp I was always wondering what the Clone Troopers with the blue on the front were though.
