Anybody ever make their own lightsaber? Post a pic or three.

Here's mine.

It's no Ultra Saber, but i think it turned out pretty good. ;D

I like it but just without the spikes. Gives kind of a Sith feel to it. Unless if you do videos with roto scoping and the saber is a Sith.

I'm not finished with mine just yet. Decided to make a curved hilt out of PVC. Need to get an LED in there and waiting for the battery pack tomorrow. Here's what it looks like so far.

I've made a few PVC sabers

Sorry about that Big Boss, my bad. :-\

I like it but just without the spikes. Gives kind of a Sith feel to it. Unless if you do videos with roto scoping and the saber is a Sith.

A red blade would fit better. The spikes are more than decorative, I needed something to hold the pommel on. :P

Looking forward to seeing the finished product JP47.

Got any pics Master Kane?

This is my pvc. Also if some one can fix the pic it would be great.

Conviction for the win. I like the switch placement too. This makes me want to give it a go for a PVC build again. Lol. I tried before and majorly failed. Heh. But now that I know a little bit more about electronics I'll be fine. Wondering if the MLS LEDs would fit in 1 inch PVC? Doing it the old school way.

I could post a "how to" if people are interested in how I make my PVC sabers

Go for it. Would make it a lot easier for me. Did you use US MLS unit for the LED set up or just hand make it piece by piece?

The MLS unit would work in the 1" opening, I use a copper cap from Home Depot with optics from tcss

Here is my project I made from a Heiland flash, hardware store parts, and an Armitage shank (sink handle) for the pommel.

In full light (indoors).  The blade isn't super bright, but it isn't bad for 12 volt LED taillight.  I picked it up from a site that sells accessories for cars.  It is held in by a standard taillight receptacle and runs off a 12 volt battery.  The 12 volts are used in wireless doorbells.

A view of the LED inside.

The blade extends about a half inch past the bolt on the bottom side.  I drilled a hole in the blade, so the bolt enters the blade sidewall preventing it from moving.  It is easily removable.

I was able to maintain some of the internal structure of the flash.

Standard rubber grips bookended with slip washers and coated in plasti-dip.  I planned to redo this to make it look nice, but never got around to it.

Sliding switched inserted into a small closet rod holder sandwhiched by multi-ply plastic and a piece of rubber.

Real deal Armitage shank.

Thanks for the complements!

No, I will probably leave that one as is.  I have another flash unit that I will eventually convert.  I plan to order Grab Bag sabers every once in a while until I get something I don't like.  Then I will pull the electronics and put them into the next flash unit conversion.  I have some new ideas for the next one.  I do plan on using plastidip  (http://www.plastidip.com (http://www.plastidip.com)) for the grips again, but I am going with different design.  It is pretty cool stuff.  You can pick it up at a hardware store.  For the coating I did on the above saber, I taped it off where I didn't want the rubber and dipped it into the solution.  I filled a tennis ball can part way, then the handle displacement raised the level up enough to cover the grips.  Don't forget to tape off the bottom of the tube to keep it from getting inside.  Then I peeled the tape off and it left the uncovered places.  I left the tape on too long, so the edges aren't as clean as I would have liked them to be, but it is good enough.

Here's my current project, It's a sink tube, but I'm trying to be ambitious and making it really nice.
Here's what I've got so far:
(http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y514/GilNarmor/20130706_222826_zps2fe01fd5.jpg) (http://s1278.photobucket.com/user/GilNarmor/media/20130706_222826_zps2fe01fd5.jpg.html)
Overall shot, eventually I'll replace the e-tape with shrink tubing for a smoother, more finished look, but the grip rings are built up using etape and are staying.
(http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y514/GilNarmor/20130706_223043_zps62cd54bd.jpg) (http://s1278.photobucket.com/user/GilNarmor/media/20130706_223043_zps62cd54bd.jpg.html)
Close up of activation box and the emitter.
(http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y514/GilNarmor/20130706_223208_zpsb5d099ca.jpg) (http://s1278.photobucket.com/user/GilNarmor/media/20130706_223208_zpsb5d099ca.jpg.html)
It's really compact, but I'm pretty confident that I can get what I want into it. It unscrews just below the activation ring too, so easy access for assembly and charging (I'm thinking one Li-Ion AA sized battery for power)

This makes me want to get parts for a nice prop. =] I think I already have one but people at TCSS didn't approve of it because of the crappy out come of the hilt and such so I never really bother to post it. Its a Graflex style hilt prop but I like it anyway. Might use it for my costume and such. I'll post pictures if I can find it. Even got the Graflex style activation box too. I think you guys might like it. Its full sink tube and such. Drilled the activation box on so it stays on nice and tight. I got the emitter design idea from the SI saber because I liked it. Might do some more work to the prop too.

Here is my OLD first ever prop. its Graflex styled. I liked the end result but I don't know why no one else didn't. They were just being mean really. So I hope you guys like it. I actually liked how there were some deep scratches on the hilt. Kind of a cool accident thing again. The entire hilt is sink tube but the rest of the extras. Go easy on me because this was my first attempt at a saber prop years ago. Lol. I think I did this like 3 years ago maybe?

The entire hilt:

Cool home made saber. I really like the design and the blue blade matches it pretty good. I thought it was just a static prop at first. I'd LED mine up but I think its too small on the ID. Could be wrong though. Plus I think its too short anyway. So it'll just remain a static prop.

The sink tube I has a slightly smaller ID than MHS parts, but not by much, it's 1 1/8" inside as opposed to the MHS' 1 1/4" ID. It's going to take some time and patience, but I'm making this a sound build, using the ultimate fx hasbro board.

That's a great first hilt, Zren! You're right to cherish it. It seems a bit like a padawan or apprentice type saber to me, but a good 'first'. :) As for it's length.... if 2 Cell Heiland flashes can get lights and sounds in em', I think darn near anything can. lol Your one worry would be ID, but really, as long as you can fit an LED in there you can probably find a way to make it work. Might not be duelable, but I'm sure you could make it light up and take a blade.

Title: Re: Home Made Lightsabers

Its just going to be a static prop. =] I got another one coming at you guys next week. Already got the design planned out. I had some sinktube left over from when we moved that I found and thought, hmm, potential lightsaber project. Lol. I think you guys will like this one. I might make an extension though so I can get NB sound and such. They should be duelable because the more custom people duels with them all the time.

Those of you that have used like, thumb screws for switches if you're wanting to do a pre quell era saber hilt, what would be the best way to keep it in place and nice and tight on the hilt, use a washer on the inside of the hilt? That's what I'm thinking. I already found all the parts I want. Just trying to figure that part out for the switch. Going to be getting the parts at least this weekend maybe tonight even if possible.

Finally got the rest of my parts. Pictures to come if I get it done this weekend. I just need the drill bits for each screw and I'm done. I might leave the rubber grip material off though. Not really working out like I wanted it to so I might get some real leather for a grip at Jo-Ann's since its not slippery like rubber is.

I had shelved the sink tube for a while, but I was tidying up and found it, looked at the threads that originally attached it to the basin. In a moment of "why not" I tested the threading in the back of an Initiate v3. Guess what's MHS compatible?

I bought mine on e-bay sometime around 2007 from somebody in England.  I have never seen any others, but I also have not been looking for them.
