Title: Shortest hilt an obsidian can fit into? Post by: Amanita on May 02, 2013, 08:17:59 AM So what's the shortest hilt an obsidian board, an av switch, and an LED module can fit into?
Here's a design I'm working on: http://ladyamanita.deviantart.com/art/Astor-s-Psi-blade-hilt-287094248?q=gallery%3Aladyamanita%2F27925970&qo=15 (http://ladyamanita.deviantart.com/art/Astor-s-Psi-blade-hilt-287094248?q=gallery%3Aladyamanita%2F27925970&qo=15) It's all made of TCSS parts- the narrow part is their long choke, and the upper part is a 6 inch fluted extension, with a switch hole. For sound, I was thinking of using one of the battery pack/speaker combos that Ultrasabers sells, and attaching the board to it, rather like the way my own obsidian saber is set up. Post by: dhenwood on May 02, 2013, 12:16:05 PM no way in hell would a soundboard and lion battery pack fit in that curved extension it looks really narrow. i suggest reconsidering the desingn, have you tried using the mhs builder provided by tcss. it will help you work out what will and wont fit inside. hope this helps :)

Title: Re: Shortest hilt an obsidian can fit into? Post by: Genkaku Sho`shyk on May 02, 2013, 05:01:41 PM only way i see this working.. and its a TIGHT fit... im talking tight like... like..... "Like!....A....G.L.O.V.E!!"
would be that you have the soundboard in the bottom, with the speaker at the pummel.. and longer wires to run upwards into the hilt where the battery pack would be,, then the switch, then the led, then the blade..... (( you might even be able to put more batteries in the hilt at this point.. with no board, and the room in the hilt above the bottom curved grip.. you might be able to fit a 4pack stacked.. but who needs that much saber light time.... they live for plenty of time as is with 2 li-ion AA.. )) Title: Re: Shortest hilt an obsidian can fit into? Post by: Amanita on May 02, 2013, 05:18:04 PM One idea was to get my hands on a battery holder like the ones in my old PVC hilts- they stack two AA sized batteries, one on top of the other, and they will fit down the center of that choke piece. Can I use a regular battery holder for a pair of trustfires like Ultrasabers sells?
That upper hilt piece (regular MHS size) is about 6" long. Title: Re: Shortest hilt an obsidian can fit into? Post by: Sarich Belmont on May 03, 2013, 05:43:37 PM Your best bet in my opinion would be to forgo the removable cells and do in hilt recharge with a stick li-ion pack. I would have to double check the size of the hilt and how narrow the choke is, but a li-ion cell stick pack may fit there.
Title: Re: Shortest hilt an obsidian can fit into? Post by: dhenwood on May 04, 2013, 07:31:50 PM how thick is the curved extension exactly? in the pic it looks really thin, am i just unaware of its actual size.

Post by: Sarich Belmont on May 04, 2013, 09:34:58 PM According to a review, someone was able to stick an 18650 battery in that choke with room for wires, so you should be able to do something like that without too much trouble, provided you want to do in hilt recharge. It seems to be the most space effective way to do it.
Title: Re: Shortest hilt an obsidian can fit into? Post by: Amanita on May 05, 2013, 05:06:52 PM I've never done an in-hilt recharge before, what would I need for that?
