Ok, tailing off Rel's thread about locations, here's another one about which ship(s) you want.  Same rules.  You're you.  As you sit in the chair right now.  Not Imperial Intelligence. Not Jedi or Sith.  Not high ranking military or bounty hunters or anything.  Just you.

What ship would you want to buy in Star Wars?  I know nobody can pick just one, so let's call it 1 from Pre-OT, 1 from During-OT, and 1 from Post-OT.  That should give us all options. 

For me it'd be the following:

Yes, I'd keep the Starwind for a long time.  The Falcon is still going strong more than 50 years after it was built, so there's plenty of precedent for it. 

    Per your rules, I would like an A-wing fighter. I like the sleek, clean lines and general shape. I also like the red and off-white color scheme you usually see them in. I think it would be fun to zip around in.
   

YT-2400

It's a nice ship, I like it better than the YT-1300.

It's versatile, fast and small. Where the Falcon and other 1300's are a bit big and bulky, the 2400 is about half the size. And the best thing about any YT, without a doubt is it's customizability. No matter your purpose for the ship you can find an easy way to make it work and work well.

While I agree that is an awesome ship, you have to be Sith to have it.  Doesn't really fit with the line of thought.  But, alas, this is all hypothetical anyway.

Pre OT: Delta Seven

Post OT: (and this is stretching it a bit) An Ugly. I would build my own Ugly, though it would be very pretty. ;) See my Avatar image if you want to know what I'm thinking visually. She'd be, essentially, an X-Wing body, Headhunter Wings, A-Wing Engines, and an extra set of cannons on the fuselage next to the cockpit.

As for the OT itself.... do I REALLY need to say it? *sigh* Okay, for those who don't know me well enough, it's the X-Wing. ;D

I was that close to picking that one or the CEC YX-1980 transport (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/YX-1980_space_transport).   Decided that I liked the layout of the Starwind-class better.  Also, the YX doesn't have laser turrets.  :(

good, you lay down cover fire while I start up my YT-2000 (Stargazer) and prepare to see some fireworks! (I like to put lots of weapons on my ships, after I trick them out with the fastest and most manuverable sub-light engines, quad-core cold fusion reactor cores, and a decent hyperdrive.

Given the choice, I always pick a YG-4210 light freighter. I just love how they look, though in every RP I've been in, I've had it modified a bit, since the base ship has no weapons. I add a quad laser battery, concussion missile launchers and an anti personnel cannon mounted on the underside.

Very cool ship.  I like the look too.  And it's got one of my major requirements in ship design: massive field-of-vision.  Sweet!

There should be a "build your own ship" site, with different sections for different franchises. I would waste hours on it ;D

Hmm.  I need to brush up on my HTML and do that.  Course, it'd take a lot of brushing.  I haven't used HTML in years.  Never used Java.  But I want to learn Java anyway.  Might be a good excuse....

I've noticed a tendency towards either tiny and fast, medium-sized and comfortable (on longer trips) or complete bloody OVERKILL! hehe

This one is a slice of pie...and I like pie  :D

The latent Consul-ardian Jedi (Yes that's a mix of Consular and Guardian that I've JUST trademarked!) within me rather likes this one! It's ALMOST an out and out winner; and as a wider scifi fan, I LOVE my ships!!!!

Something I noticed about this... The Sith Marauder's ship, the Sith Fury has a Captain's cabin, and crew quarters, so everyone has a place to stay.
But with the Jedi's equivalent, there's just the captain's quarters and a couch in the rec room. It seems to me that the Empire takes much better care of their people than the Republic does. Heck, even the droids in the game show this. On the Republic side, they say "You are fit for duty. Return to your post." One the Empire side, the droids say "Be well."

I'd say this is either some "hair shirt" policy on the part of the Jedi, where the Sith realise that comfort on LONG journeys IS important, or else it's just the rudeness of jedi droids! hehe

Yea, i know 8/9 were destroyed and the other stolen but one of those Firespray class patrol ships would be my pick. Jango had good taste.

I still like the DP20 Frigate (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DP20_frigate), and I'm especially fond of the Lethisk-class (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lethisk-class_armed_freighter) armed freighter. It just looks cool.

I'll agree with ya there.  That one is definitely in my top 5. 

I like the Separatist ships. Every single of them, but especially the Providence, the Lucrehulk and the Subjugator.

Finally, somebody else appreciates efficient Seppy design.

My favorite ships are the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser, the lovely Hapan Battle Dragon, and the TIE Defender. Yorik-Et and the Interdictor receive honorable mentions.

It's a pity there's only one Subjugator detailed in canon, in addition to the Subjugator we know nothing about. In my headcanon, there was a third one, Deliverance, built by the Separatist remnant during the early Imperial period.

I know that in space aerodynamics are irrelevant, but I like them asthetically. YT-2000, anything built by the Naboo, you get the picture. EVE Online ships are way off base, Trekkie ships are meh at best, Firefly ships are pretty cool tho.

Oh, if you guys wanna talk about starship asthetics I think we ALL know the Connie and Sovereign Classes are pretty hard to beat. ;)

Aesthetics?!  Oh, boy.  Now there's a bunny trail.  But hell, let's go for it!  Personally I prefer symmetrical ships. 


One of my favorite looking ships is the X-70B Phantom from SWTOR.  It similar to the Nubian ships, but seems more "useful" to me, if that makes sense.

Outside of Star Wars, I absolutely LOVE the Origin 300i that they're making for Star Citizen (https://robertsspaceindustries.com).

Other than that, there's the Deepwater-class freighter, Starwind-class freighter, and of course the Jade Shadow are on the list of best looking. 

I prefer symmetry in ships, so as classic as the YT designs are, I never much cared for them. Same for the B-Wing, and the freighter Anakin ends up with during the Clone Wars.

Pre-OT: Padme's ship destroyed at the start of Ep II. Just a beautiful vessel.

OT: X-Wing, X-Wing, X-Wing. Well armed, manoeuvrable enough, tough as teak and plenty fast enough. The ideal snubfighter.

Post-OT: TIE Defender, blind spot and all. Six guns, speed, a tractor beam, shields, manoeuvrability... What's not to like (apart from that blind spot)?

In addition to the Constitution-Refit and the Sovereign class, I also love the bulldog-like boxy sleekness of the Defiant-class and the overall design of the Akira-class. The Miranda-class gets a nod as well.

The only real ship design that I love is the Defiant Class ship in the ST universe and I guess the Starfighters that Obi Wan uses in the prequel ...

Are there any Star Wars ships that resemble the Defiant class in looks or concept ... Concept being a warship that is small highly agile but very heavily armored and equipped

I don't know what ship it is, but I'm assuming it's some sort of freighter or transport, but it was in a hangar bay in SWTOR. I can't find an image of it, but it was basically the  bridge of the  Smuggler ship that had the wings and body of Maul's Sith Infiltrator. Being said, I can't find an image of it anywhere, but I love the way it looks.

As far as starfighters and the like are concerned, I'm a fan of the V-Wing airspeeder (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/V-wing_airspeeder). Awesome little aircraft. The only downside is that it's not spaceworthy. There's also the Belbullab-22 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Belbullab-22_starfighter), the Porax-38 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Porax-38_starfighter), and the Cutlass-9 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cutlass-9_patrol_fighter).


Of course, there's another one that I just love despite its ugliness (or perhaps because of it)... the Z-'ceptor (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Z-%27ceptor).

I hate nacelles on the ST Federation ships ... I never liked how they all had the same nacelle color and basic pill like shape even though all the other species were capable of warp speed without the attached coffin nacelles

Actually, most of the main species of ST used Nacelle Pattern Warp Drive. Klingons... Romulans... I believe even the Dominion to an extent, as well as the Vulcans and Andorians if I recall correctly. Notable exceptions do exist however, in form of the Borg, the Ferengi, Early Vulcan ships, and a slew of one shoters and oft-recycled 'anonymous aliens'.  :D

I think its the blue nacelle with the red tips like the Galaxy Class, Sovereign, Centaur, Ambassador, etc

They just look so ugly and out of place... if they were just red tipped or just blue tipped with the silver / grey color pattern like the Miranda class or the updated Enterprise as posted with the cooler looking nacelles I like those... I just hate the blue / red nacelles... They just look so funny to me.  Romulans have a cool looking nacelle with the green  matching their ships colors etc. 

It's true that there were no Romulan vessels in the original movies, there were Romulan vessels during the original series. The picture you posted is very close, but the warp nacelles look too much like the Connie refit.

I always thought the Ferengi ships would just be other species ships that they won via bets or paid off debts...

I always loved it when a Ferengi got beat up ...

Despite their weakness as a species overall, they were considered a decent threat. I mean, they did attack and nearly destroy the USS Stargazer, only failing due to the ingenuity of Captain Picard and the subsequently named Picard Maneuver. Even so, the ship had to be abandoned, and Picard was court martialed for the loss of the ship. He was absolved, of course, but still.

Oh, hells yes.  Love me some Mass Effect.  Great ship design too. 

Though I think I might be the only guy here who doesn't much care for the Star Trek ships.  They're ok.  Just never really caught my eye. 

Try looking up the Reman Scorpion shuttle. You might like it. :)

Hmm..  Now that ain't bad.  Looks like it should be a starfighter instead of a shuttle, but I know Trek doesn't really use fighters.  Still, it's a cool design.  Point.

I saw one of those in person once. They are absolutely SINISTER, and quite stunning. I think Star Trek the Exhibition is touring one with the TNG Bridge. Definitely worth seeing if it hits your area!
