P.S.  If you're looking for a quick way to port it, you might try a Wine "wrapper".  I hear it's pretty simple, easy, runs well, etc.

Can't wait to get a Ultra Saber with the new Sounboard. :D I'm actually gonna get a Shock with a green heavy grade blade and the Obsidian soundboard next week then for my bro will be a Dark Qui-gon (red bladed) saber. Gonna have the re-charge system with it too. So be on the lookout for my first order next week if money allows it. :D

I am going to make this my primary sound board to put in all my sabers from now on (it was MR or Hasbro), and I Salivate PROFUSELY at the thought of being able to INSTALL COUNTLESS NEW SOUND FONTS (that I'm sure, are sure to come soon), whenever I feel like it.  This makes me say (Crystal Whatus 4. who cares  :D  ;) )

Glad you guys like it!  We've had to keep things on the DL for many months now (almost half a year I think), but... yup, progress forward has finally brought things to the forefront.

A few things I'll touch upon before too many similar questions get tossed forth (until Ultra gets a "Obsidian" thread/place/home going):

* Please keep in mind... the board is NOT a "super uber, everything is perfect" thing.  It can't be "the best at everything" for the cost!!!
* THAT SAID... I am not lying when I say that the board really is very sweet!  It's above and BEYOND what a "mid-grade" / custom sound board should do!!
* Boot sound = yes
* USB connection = yes, it's standard
* When batteries are connected and board is idle... it draws very little current.  When board enters "deep sleep" mode (I don't recall how long it is, but you get the picture--if you 'leave it alone' for a long time), it draws a very very VERY tiny amount of current.  I don't even think it's 1mA.  Which means--leaving it "in your closet" for a week or two (or three!)... won't drain the cells all THAT much more than they would on their own.  :)
* One sound font on the board at a time -- sorry!  Again... this is mainly a cost thing
* No lighting effects.  Sorry!  No flicker, no pulse, no lockup stuff... it's just "direct drive" (see below)
* Default sound font was a joint effort between Alex & myself... we sat down together, I played different hums, clashes, swings, etc. ... and we "selected" these together, make tweaks here and there, finally coming up with the default "Obsidian" sound font... 12 swings, 12 clashes, hum, power on/off & lockup.  :)
* Max voltage/current support needs to get updated by Alex here... I don't recall precisely what it is, but it's more the total HEAT the board can support... such as 12v @ 1A = 12watts... but it may support > 12w, I'm not certain... I forgot! I know, I suck... :D

IMPORTANT:

* The Obsidian itself is ~NOT~ (I repeat, not) uniquely driving the LED... this is done more as a "pass through" / direct drive thing, so... for anyone who knows how to wire up super-basic sabers... you can imagine/pretend as though you're hooking up a battery to an LED with no board... in other words:

...If you have a Lux III red (~2.95vF)... and you had a single Li-Ion 3.6v cell... you'd utilize a small resistor of your choice to get the voltage down to something closer to 3v or 3.2v or what not.

...If you have a Lux III blue (~3.9vF)... and you had a single Li-Ion 3.6v cell... you wouldn't need a resistor at all.

...If you have a Lux V green (~7.2vF & discontinued, darn IT!!!!)... and you had 2 Li-Ion cells at ~7.2v... take one wild guess.  No resistor needed.

...If you have a LED _____ that is ~4vF (let's say)... and you have ~7.2v Li-Ion pack... you're going to need a pretty decent resistor to shunt off all that excess voltage.

OR... you could use a tiny "coin-cell" shaped LED driver in there.  Your choice.  ... And ok, the final bit of (possibly?) bad news... but also good news in my opinion:

* User-customized fonts are not supported.

Why not?  Well... many many reasons, but Ultra/Alex was kind enough to see my work HAVING ACTUAL VALUE (and I agree), and so if you want official fonts that behave properly upon, and are configured properly for the Obsidian--you will be able to purchase these on the Ultrasabers site.  The costs of each font will be REASONABLE, however (in case people get worried or freak out)... and it will be akin to purchasing a piece of music on iTunes or something like that if you will.

Finally, I am quite grateful for the system that Ultra will be putting into place regarding my work, because frankly... it's nice to see that he is both aware and appreciative of my sound-mixing work.  Much thanks to Ultra for that!

Remember:  this product is here out of RESPECT and TEAMWORK in the LED saber community.  It is not there to make other things "of lesser value", nor is it to replace anything else out there.  It is what it is, and one of the ultimate goals is... to provide the LED saber community with *MORE SOUNDBOARDS*... the ones it needs.  The ones that have been needed for many years!

Hi to my fellow jedi and sith brothers. I purposely joined this forum because I am so excited about this consular and super affordable soundboard. A Qui Gon is my holy grail (the other one being a v2 which I already built) and I am glad that I aborted my plan to get someone to custom made me one for a mint.

The price is fantastic for the amount of features we get. Kinda makes the other 'affordable' soundboard overpriced and outdated in comparison.

I already know what I want with this saber. Consular Green (can there be any other?  ;) ), nickel plating, li-on setup, bullet tipped ultraedge and the soundboard with the AV switch. One question though, can I have a red AV switch instead? I think it would matched Qui Gon's saber better.

I will also recommend members of my local light saber choreography club to buy ultrasabers. As we are getting better and better, we also realized that the FX aren't quite up to standards anymore.

Got only one question for you guys, what is the obsidian inductee price? Is that the price of the board without the AV switch? BTW fantastic board and saber! I know what hilt Im getting next!  ;D

Having had some issues in the past with boards shortly out on me, the casing on the board is what I'm most excited about and the addition of accurate swings plus Novastar's soundfonts is a HUGE plus! Can't wait to get one.

Wow! I don't bother to have sound installed on my sabers because of bad sound effects or a huge price tag.
This changes things up. I'll have to get one and see for myself because it sounds awsome.

Ok this may sound like a very stupid question to people who know better, but would it now be a possibility to fit the Obsidian in say a Dominix? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm pretty new to the awesomeness of these sabers :P

Yes, I think you missed that something like this has been eagerly desired for ever. The $75 cost floats as an upgrade cost to another Ultrasabers product. See? Profit and economies of scale are wrapped up in the hilt and any other thing you're buying. If the sold the thing for less than the install cost, there's be little incentive for folks from other saber houses, CSS and so forth from buying up 10. Less profit, bad business.

Your questions might be better asked, given this boards unique nature, likely instant demand, lengthy development and costly production, why do I only have to pay $75 for it installed, if it's a $120 board?! Am I lucky, or just that god damned good looking?

The $120 DIY price is what this board should actually cost.  Electronic sensor, interchangable sound fonts, usb connectivity, software with GUI interface, wiring harness connectors (no solder pads!!), 16 bit audio, 48K sample rate, 3.6v minimum, 12v maximum, 24 watts of mx power output, class d audio amplifier, less than 1ma power drain, and epoxy encapsulation...  this is NOT an economy board, its the most advanced sound board ever made enmasse and is 2nd only to the Crystal Focus.  $120 is a bargain price for the DIY board.

However, we are offering the board for $75 only if you get a saber with it as well.  Its a small way for us to thank our customers for sticking with us through all the years.  Its a limited time price, though, so take advantage while you can.

I was so blown away that I had to change the order that I was patiently awaiting to submit -  It was worth the change thought.  Thank you for making the Consular (Qui-Gon simuli)!!!!!   And most of all for the special deals.

Because you are direct driving the LED, you need to wire the AV LED parallel to the main LED. And remember, depending on your battery solution you need to resistor it as well.

You guys said in another post that you will be putting sound into sabers that don't have the option of sound.  I was thinking of ordering a prophecy (while its on sale of course, but still gotta come up with the money  :() and i was wondering if when your custom saber department is up and running will it be an option to put in the obsidian sound board in the prophecy when I order? Or if I will have order it and then wait and send it in and have you put it in?

i ordered a Shock LE with obsidian and a purple led, got it with 3 day ship time, is that accurate or did i pay extra for 3 day but really im waiting 2 to 3 weeks, just wondering because i really wanna test out this new soundboard.

The "ship time" (3 day shipping, etc.) is how long it takes UPS to ship your saber once they get it from US. The average time it takes, from placing your order to receiving it, is around a week. You shouldn't have a long wait! :)

Nice looking sound option. Still more then I want to pay, but a nice option. Too bad the market size doesn't allow for the scale of production needed to bring the price point down even further. It does open up sound for a lot more people then before. Especially the $75 add-on price.

Anyone knows when will these ship out if I order one now? There is no timeframe given and I am worried that I might need to wait months to get mine.

Also, if I were to get a Prophecy and the option of installing an Obsidian inside, does the 75usd offer still applies?

The obsidian sound board seems too good to be true!  I just hope it fits in my Luke ANH saber!!!  It seems MUCH louder than the Force FX boards.

I just got to swing and Obsidian equipped Consular around today at Caine's LED Saber class.  The sensitivity is extremely accurate and the sound quality was second to none!  I can say for a fact I will be purchasing an Obsidian equipped saber very soon from Ultrasabers ^\^

Some things you guys can all do to help people "get the word" that the board is pretty darn nice:

* Make a video, show the saber in action
* Do some reviews
* Show your friends

That's easy, just get a solid pommel(without sound holes). That should at least muffle it quite a bit.

And here I was, thinking how awesome my Mace Windu saber from Master Replicas was with the sound and stuff. But after listening to a few videos on the soundboard, my Mace Windu just doesn't cut it as the mushroom cloud layin' motha... well you know  :P

Awesome job on these soundboards guys! Compact in size and almost indestructible due to the black epoxy it would seem. And those soundfonts. I love listening at them. NovaStar sure did an awesome job on making those sabers sound as good as in the movies!!!  8)

Is there any plans for any new sounds to be added to the Obsidian Sound Fonts in the near future? I know there is already a lot, and I have been having a blast playing around with them all on my guardian, but just wondering if there will be more added one day?
