Title: Heavy Bag LED saber training - By Caine
Post by: Caine on June 23, 2011, 06:29:14 AM
For those of you who don't have a partner to saberplay, there IS hope!

Using a heavy boxing bag is a great way to work on your target striking as well as work footwork, combinations and get a good cardio workout at the same time.

*Try 2 minute rounds
*Round 1 is your warmup round. Work on your strikes in a stationary position.
*Round 2 you can work your combinations. Work combos of high/low, low medium, low, high, medium, etc. Try not to do less that two strikes and no more than 5 for now. Once you get better, you can add more strikes to your combos.
*Add footwork, flurries, body spins and kicks to increase the intensity of your workout.

Whatever options you choose, you are going to greatly improve your saberplay and your striking skills. I recommend starting at 3 rounds and then increasing to 5, then 7, etc.

Enjoy everyone....and saberplay hard!

I don't have a bag. But I do have a tree! Or is that a bad idea?

I wouldn't recommend a tree and I think Master Caine would agree (if I may be so presumptuous).  Reason being that bag has padding and will give a little on a solid hit.  A tree is going to stand firm and could wear, scratch or even crack your blade depending on how hard you go!  If you were to wrap an old bed comforter around a smaller tree or add something softer to the tree that would likely be safer for your blade.  But of course I bow to Master Caine's thoughts on the subject always!

very cool vid Master Caine! I like to use a padded arm as well to practice strikes to the forearm.

Hit that tree! Just make sure you use thick walled blades cuz that tree trunk has no give! But a tree is a good training tool if you don't have acces to a heavy bag.

Awesome! Luckily both my sabers have thick walldes, so I shall train tonight. My neighbors will probably think I'm weird, but hey....

Instead of my heavy bag I am just going to hit my sister. But so I don't get yelled at, we are both black belts and she is army trained.   So more than likely I will be the one out cold on the floor...I even have my favorite spot on the mats.  ;D

Hahahaha oh sibling love... I remember when I used to duel my brother as a kid, back in the pre-Ultrasaber days.  When I got too intense he would just run away and toss the saber at me lol.

@Darth Raze and Master Caine - I have indeed heard that trees are ok to train on with a heavy grade, which only makes me more impressed with these Ultrasabers products!  Of course, I wouldn't personally do it cause I wanna keep my blade in decent shape (nicks and whatnot) but if that's all you have, go for it!

My thoughts exactly, Nero.

Sweet!! I'm definitely gonna be doing this, especially since I don't have anybody to duel with!!
