Title: Adegan Silver Color Discs Post by: OISIN NOM on March 19, 2015, 10:15:57 AM I was wondering if anyone here has gotten the adegan silver with color discs? Do you like the color discs? Would you say the colors that the discs produce are acceptable? I would appreciate any thoughts you would be willing to give me on this subject. I am considering using this feature for the rest of my sabers so I can change the color at will if I wish.

think about it this way; a 10w blue LED gives 10w worth of light in that colour, and nothing else. A 10w white LED gives 10w of light, but it's a mixture of different wavelengths, so a filter cuts down on the amount of light you actually are able to use. Your best bet by far is emerald, although i appreciate it's not a cheap option. I know a few forum members have had success with Lee filters instead of the colour discs, so i'll leave it for them to say how bright and true those colours can be. You can find a swatch book witch will have LOADS of different colors to choose from. Its whats known as "stage" light film. VERY thin. You would just cut out a 1" in. Circle to fit inside of the blade hole. And BAM! You get full (95% -99%) color with the ability to change the colors to what ever filters.. Im at work right now. But i could drop a link to the thread in the forums later after work. Unless someone gets to it before me.. You also might try doing a forums search for (Lee filters adagin Led) should be able to find some info there with links to some possible Lee filter sales. Pretty cheap for the swatch books too.

I have yet to try lee filters because I'm lazy as hell but I can imagine they might be better. I like the AS light because not only does it look fantastic on its own, it has versatility because one color can be boring and I would like to change it up every now and then. It's also true that it isn't as bright with the discs, but it depends on what you're going for. if you want something to track on camera it works nicely. If you're at a con, you may want more brightness, but like I said, I don't know what it's like with lee filters.

Title: Re: Adegan Silver Color Discs Post by: Copperhamster on March 20, 2015, 04:42:09 AM I find that without a lot of fiddling you end up with very pale saber blades in the AS. I prefer my RGB if I'm going for more standard colors. It never occurred to me to get a set of color filter swatches to make disks out of, (I ordered some yesterday, not Lee but Roscolux. According to their website if you have an official dealer nearby the dealers will give the swatch books for free. I live in the middle of nowhere so it was cheaper to order them, ~$5 shipped, than drive to where I can get a set for free) but I have gotten some very good colors out of things you wouldn't think would do well. For example, one of the pharmacies in town uses dark green pill bottles. The bottom of that makes it match the standard Green blade almost perfectly, compared to the washed out green of the standard filters. Similarly you get a good strong yellow from the orange pill bottles (doesn't look orange at all). Basically any color you want, look for a darker filter than you would think.
I've never found a way to make a good sithy red. I have one filter I cut from a piece of acrylic I had in a junk box but it's too thick (1/4") and the blade is too dim in my opinion, and still a 'pinker' red than my RGB with just the red channel on. (note that the RGB red channel on my One thing I do recommend, if you are willing to possibly risk burning out your led (never happened to me) is run it hotter. Instead of the 4 AAA pack (5 ish volts nominal with NiMh's) I use a pair of Li-Ion's to drop 7+ volts across it. Before that I used to use 3x CR14250 1/2 AA batteries (I had a steady supply of slightly used ones for free) that put roughly 9V across it. (don't try using a square 9v battery btw, I thought I had blown my LED after having the sword on for 20-25 minutes in a skit, and it turns out the 9v had burst. They can't handle the current draw at all.) Edit: Two other things I've done;

Gonna see if I can turn it yellow or purple or orange. Unless it's a different led than what I've got in mine (the old V1's and E series), the colored saber blades don't change much at all with disks. I've got a very dark blue disk I made from something that gives me a good blue on the AS (the shipped color disks give a very light blue imo) and my RGB has very little beneficial effect, except it gives the blue led itself a very dark color that's still quite visible.Dropping my dark green pill bottle bottom has no effect on green, makes the blue a hair dimmer, and the red disappears almost completely. It's because the single color led blades put out light on a very specific frequency.
