Title: My Apprentice v4 with Raven SS Pommel
Post by: Seano on March 09, 2016, 03:34:35 AM
It's finally arrived, my Apprentice v4 in Guardian Blue with the Raven SS Pommel, Circle Blade Plug, and Obsidian Lite soundboard, and I have to say, I love it!

It looks more awesome in real life than it does in the pics -  it's so lightweight, beautifully machined and balanced, couldn't be happier!

I took out the blade retention screw, and added a red capped thumb screw, which I think really sets it off! If anyone in Australia (or anywhere else in the world) wants to order some of these, just let me know in a private message, and I'll give you the link as to where I got mine from.

Here's a few pics I've taken, and will update more as I get underway with the weathering and the Black Leather Tsuka Ito wrapping!

For some reason, the pics keep coming up as a broken link, so have just put in the url's instead -

You got the screw from TCSS huh? we can mention The Custom Saber Shop cause Ultra-sabers uses TCSS parts, that is what the catalyst is entirely made out of TCSS parts.

Awesome, thanks Grewowl, don't know why the links wouldn't work for me!
As for the screw, I actually got it from a shop here in Queensland called Miniature Bearings Australia, a lot cheaper than getting them shipped from the US. Most of the time it costs around $40+ (around $50 Australian) just to have something as small as a belt clip sent to Australia!

Nice pics.   That thumb screw is a good idea.

Here's my first attempt at weathering my Apprentice v4, just used some matte black enamel paint, followed by some clear coat rust proofing fixative spray paint. Although there's a lovely clean ring around the switch (I used round sticking plasters to protect the switch and the sound holes in the pommel while painting), I'm not too worried, as it will be covered by the Tsuka Ito wrapping when it arrives.
I'm also going to swap out the guarded switch for an AV switch, so it sits more flush on the wrapping.

Just finished wrapping my hilt with Tsuka Ito wrap, and although it's not perfect, I think it turned out alright!

Seani, nice looking hilt. I want to give you a point, but I'm a bit confused which way you want, light or dark?

Also, to upload the pics:

1. Once you have them on photobucket, copy the photo. There should be three lines in the top left corner of the thumbnail that will allow you ro do this. You should see email, link, img, etc.
2. Click the IMG one. It should flash and say, "copied."
3. Paste what you copied into the text box here on the forum.

Give that a try.

Wasn't completely happy with the way the sabre turned out with the Tsuka Ito wrap, so removed the wrap, and just wrapped it with leather. Once the glue is completely dry, and the 2 surfaces are set, I'm going to add a strip the same width of the clip along the length of the hilt and cover the clip.
Not a fan of the Covertec system either, so have gone old school with the D-Ring set-up, find it's so much easier getting on and off the belt clip.
Whilst removing the paint off the hilt, I also inadvertently cleaned off some of the weathering off the pommel, so will redo that tomorrow after work.
Here's a few pictures of the sabre so far -

Wonderful wrapping! It's grand what difference it makes to the Apprentice!

That looks really good. :)

I was just looking at Apprentice hilts, and picturing different pommels on them actually.

Finally finished my customisation, a small strip of leather covering the joins, and the D-Ring clip, stops a lot of the clinking of the ring on the hilt!
