Title: Making the curve.
Post by: KenshinTrigger on September 23, 2011, 06:09:27 AM
Yeah bad pun, but I figured I'd start of strong in my first post with a title like that.

Anywho, I'm new to ultra sabers, though already a hardcore fan of their work, owning two initates (bought at dragon con) and a liberator. I was curious though, at any point did US make a curved saber, or rather a saber with a curved hilt much like Dooku in the prequel trilogy? I was curious since I find that particular style rather fascinating, and since the end of it straightens out a bit, it wouldn't be hard to fit the batteries in. But again, I am fully aware that the styles on the site have come and gone somewhat before I even arrived. Hence my curiosity if a curved hilt saber was ever produced here, and if so, would it ever be offered again? I know I'd buy one, kinda suits my form II style since I kinda trained in European fencing before I did kendo.

-Knight Apprectice Kenshin Trigger.

P.S.
if I posted this question in the wrong forum directory, please let me know. still getting used to the forums as is.

You are one of many who would like to see a curved hilt saber. A lot of the good people here on this forum wish to see a certain type of style of saber. And trust me about everyone is requesting to see a certain type of saber made. I guess the real answer is that no one will know what future sabers there will be. Only Ultra and his staff know what they plan on making for us in the future. All I can say is be patent. Ultra and his crew are always hard at work to bring us top notch product and are good at announcing new product releases. This is the best answer I can give to you. By the way welcome to the forums

Well said Grave13.

Ultra, while he may not make his presence know on the forum often, He his always watching and contemplating what, us, the customer's are looking for.

As well as what the normal "Main Stream" Star War's Fans are looking for.

TBH I don't care what the hilt looks like if they came out with another curved hilt, so long as it felt good in the hand.

I know that as a Star Wars fan that if US(Ultra Sabers) to make another curved hilt that I would get it be because of that "Count Dooku" feel to the saber< And that is what most people are looking for if they want a Curved hilt.

 ;D ;D

They used to make a PVC hilt called the Dark Apprentice:

You're not the only one looking for a curved hilt, I've fenced nearly ten years now so naturally the Makashi in me demands one as well ;)

Ultra appears to be exceptionally good at collecting this kinda chatter and building us what we want, and he has hinted at a curved hilt down the road.  In the meantime I think I'll save my money, in the hopes that I can grab one as soon as it comes out!

I concur with those whom previously posted on this subject; the most important aspect of upcoming sabers is: having patience. I often find myself twitching with impatience over what new sabers ultrasabers would release (including a Dark Apprentice V2). This time around, I'm going to practice patience to the fullest extent for such an invaluable, elegant saber.  ;D

Thanks a lot guys, gives me the confidence to be patient too, especially knowing that they did at one point make a curved hilt back when they were still doing PVC models. Hell if anything, if they pick up the design of a curved hilt again, they'll probably look more awesome, since everything they do seems to have gotten better with the step up to aircraft grade aluminum. here's hoping they also include a connector piece for those models too, since even if it'd be unweidly, a saberstaff made out of twin curved hilts would still look awesome, even if just as a display piece.

Funny you should say that, because when they made the Dark Apprentice they did have a connector for it - I believe the staff version was called the Tempest.  Pretty neat.

Huh I didn't know that. guess that means the possibility for a connector on an aluminum model seems much more likely. I wonder how the tempest handled.

I'd love an aluminum curved hilt! Not just for the "Dooku Effect" but because I actually teach a saber combat choreography class and Makashi is a Form I've wanted to master for teaching but find that the traditional straight hilt restricts the fluidity of the movements. I have several students from the Louisiana area who have already purchased sabers from US. The rest are just looking for that "perfect one" to purchase. Two of which are looking for curved hilts in addition to myself.

Glad to see more inquiries for the curved hilts.

Indeed. I may get a consular soon and then sort of cut myself off on full blown saber purchases, four being somewhat enough (separate MHS parts for interchangeability are fair game though).
However I can definitely say if a curved came on the market I'd get it regardless. too good to pass up really, what with such a unique hilt design compared to the others. I wonder if it'd be entirely MHS compatible though.

You could order a grab bag and tackfully ask if they have any of the dark apperantices lying around :)

Just a thought...
