Nice trailer.  No lightsabers (though one owner).

Good trailer. But might be the first Star Wars movie to not feature any lightsabers.

Depends if Darth Vader takes to the field or not.

I wish he does, that would be awesome. But I feel he won't, it's not his show in this one. I hope I am totally wrong.  :P

I expect Vader to be more of a supporting character in this one.  This is supposed to chronicle the Rebels' first major victory, mentioned in the text crawl of the original film.  If Vader is in the fight against a group of non Force users, it will be a one sided battle.  Plus, he has the elite 501st as his personal Stormtrooper unit.

Yoda:  "Only a fully trained Jedi Knight with The Force as his ally will conquer Vader and his emperor."

That's why I don't think Vader will have much of a role.  I expect it to be more of a thing where Rebels fight common troopers.  Of course, I could be wrong.  ;)

I remember hearing that this is suppose to be more military/covert ops with no Jedi/Sith involvement. Not to say there won't be force sensitives involved.

Though we now know SW Rebels is happening elsewhere around the same time as Roque, which might be more of a concern to Vader now that he knows a Sith holocron is in the hands of Ezra ect.

I think this is going to be about the non-Force-users and showing the critical role they play.  One thing I feel from the Prequels is that in those movies, even though Force sensitives are vastly outnumbered, is as if their role was treated as meaningless.  That is a stark contrast against the Original Trilogy and The Force Awakens, where there are many more credible non-Force-sensitives who are shown to have critical, powerful roles in the galaxy.  To me, Rogue One is refreshing because it will really show us that side of the galaxy and reinforce the idea that yes, "normal" people count too and can make a real difference.

Maybe i misunderstood something but i thinl that we see a non-jedi force sensitive warrior in the trailer ....

Perhaps not a force user, but more like one that has faith in the Force and believes it guides his actions.  He's blind after all.  And according to Obi-wan Kenobi "In my experience, there is no such thing as luck".

I didn't know he was blind . . . point for the info :)

Maybr he's similar to a Miraluka.  The entire race is blind and "sees" through the Force.  They don't always have the Force ability necessary to become Jedi/Sith, though.  He could be a blind human with the same ability.

Interesting SW would have this character when the same thing just happened to Kanan in Rebels.

Dumb question...are we sure it's not Kanan?

I even suspect that Vader was a last minute "change of plans" to include him by the directors to rescue the initial concerns about the movie when the first trailers came out. This trailer is much better than the first ones.

Ah ha!  The rabbit hole deepens!  Actually it's not(fun idea though 8)), here is a full list of actors/characters according to imdb:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3748528/fullcredits/

I do think it's AWESOME they are using the Saw Gerrera character from SW-TCW series.

This has me even more excited for this movie (which I didn't think was possible). I love how they are giving us the scope of the movie rather than trying to explain what all is happening in it.

It's awesome they got James Earl Jones back to voice Vader as well. The chills when he showed up again!

And yes, it's great to see them tying other SW properties into this. They may be saving a character or two also that could cameo from Rebels  ::)

Since they are trying their best to maintain a continuity between everything I don't think they would change the race of a character between the films and tv series.

This movie has no Kyle Katarn.

If this was some other movie without Kyle, I would be a-okay with it. But it is a movie that is about stealing the Death Star plans, which also has Dark Troopers and Jan Ors with serial numbers filed off barely scratched. This movie has to have Kyle. But it has no Kyle. They brought Thrawn back, so there's no reason why Kyle shouldn't be here. But he is not here.

This. Is. Blasphemy. Kyle Katarn will punish the entire filming crew with his Briar Pistol.

Actually the rumors were Vader's role was Lessened because it didn't fit the tone they wanted.

Second Trailer has been released.

Looks very interesting.

Also it seems the Rebel Fleet takes part in the engagement, or there just happen to be a few Nebulon-B frigates, Corellian Corvettes, Hammerhead Corvettes, and Gallofree Yards freighter hanging around while a bunch of X-wing and Y-wing blow stuff up.

I just saw the trailer earlier and for the first time the hairs on the back of my arms stood on end!
It looked like a crystal, but is it a Kyber that's the question!

me too  :D

This from http://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2016/11/new-rogue-one-a-star-wars-story-international-trailer.html

"A scene with Jyn and her mother, Lyra, followed by a shot of an older Jyn reflecting with the keepsake her mother gave her. Could it be a Kyber Crystal? It’d certainly explain the “Trust the Force.” line that immediately precedes Lyra giving Jyn the item, which is associated with Jedi and Sith alike due to it serving as the crucial component used to power a lightsaber. Kyber Crystals are also known to be what the Death Star’s superlaser is powered by, and given that Galen Erso is responsible for working on the Death Star’s superlaser, it’s quite possible that there are a few on Jyn’s homeworld…"

I'd say the odds are it is a Kyber Crystal . . .  ;D

It will be interesting to see if the Death Star superlaser is RED or..... Oh yes it's GREEN isn't it. OK Disney please explain!

Well, maybe the since the Death Star was designed by Galen, the Crystals are green instead of red. We don't know if Galen's intent was to cause harm, I think it is more of he is doing whatever he has to in order to survive. If this is so, then there is no reason that the Crystal would be red. Especially since I don't think Vader would take the time to go 'bleed' all of the crystals that it takes to power the Death Star.

Just some thoughts.

That's ok it was just a "Can of worms" I was waiting to be opened. Galen designed the Superlaser but it was used for harm afterwards. As we never saw the laser fire twice we don't know if destroying the planet and  inhabitants of Alderaan would "Bleed" the crystals in one fell swoop.

Lots of questions and time to answer them I suppose.

The weaponized huge crystal found in the Clone Wars was green and put out a green beam when hit by blasters.  There were no Jedi involved with finding it, and the Seperatists  (meaning the Sith behind them) wanted it...like for the Death Star.  Add to this the Rebels episode that came out the week or so after the Clone Wars (rough) episode involving the crystal came out, had the Rebels hunt down an Imperial convoy that was carrying a giant weaponized kyber crystal that exploded with a green shockwave.  This crystal was also likely going to the Death Star.

I haven't had much time on the forum recently, seems the only time I get to myself is driving to and from work (half hr each way), and I've just been listening to the first chapters of Catalyst (Star Wars): A Rogue One Novel (Audiobook) and it seems Galen IS working on synthetic Kyber crystals . . . So there is no doubt in my mind Jyn's necklace IS a Kyber crystal . . .

Someone, somewhere noticed her pendant was inscribed with "FORCE" in arubesh . . . and someone else noticed it said "Trust the Force" . . .

This . . . AND the X-Wing footage . . . Getting more excited now . . . and, got my tickets for the midnight screening . . . WOO HOO . . .  ;D ;D ;D

This morning while driving into work, listening to Catalyst Audio Book, the end of chapter 12 . . . it's the end of the Clone Wars, the Jedi have been "disbanded", and Krennic shows Galen a case FULL of Kyber Crystals, Lyra then commented "you know where these came from . . . the size, the shape . . . these could only have come from Jedi lightsabers" . . .  :o

Well that might answer the question "what happened to those thousands of lightsabers and their crystals?"
