Title: Krayts maw, another mchalk13 production
Post by: mchalk13 on October 21, 2016, 02:10:26 PM
Still a WIP but nearly complete

I wanted this prophecy v3 to look as though it has been carved from the tooth of a Krayt Dragon.

Alright, seeing as how this is a way more difficult thing to type up on my phone here we go,

This started out as a Prophecy v3 that I removed the covertech knob on and sanded the whole hilt down to rough it up some and make it easier for paint adhesion. After that I used a dremel to etch in the lightning strike in to the upper portion of the hilt. After that I then cut the "x" pattern you seen in to it as well and added a few more gashes around it and several dings and scrapes on the emitter. I also used a drill to drill another hole in the upper choke point so that light would shine through both sides. I used a self etching automotive primer and a base coat of satin light ivory followed by several dry brushing runs of dwarf flesh, elf flesh, and bone white paint that's made in Germany and I have no clue what its name brand is. Next up will be using an ultra fine brush to paint a black gray mixture in to the lightning and gashes to give it depth as well as some light dry brushing around it to give it a bit of texture. After that will be several coats of a flat clear coat and the a small leather wrap around the second choke point. Let me know what you think of this project.

:o  This is such a cool saber.  I really like it a whole bunch.  Read what you have done to this Prophecy but not really clear on how you made this happen... but that's okay.  :D

Can't wait to see the finished product and could you then remove and show the open edges of the pommel as I'd appreciate seeing the actual thickness of the paint and auto primer.  The Catalyst pommel is a good choice.  :)

well deserved point for you  8)

WOW!!

Great work mchalk13!  That looks fantastic. :)

Any plans to fill the covertech hole, or will you still be using it?

Very nicely done

Very cool and different ! I like what you have done with it, and i'm not one for heavy mods.

Almost done, filled in the lightning strikes and the deeper gashes with black and grey paint, then dry brushed the bone coloring back over the top to create some depth, currently I'm on the third coat of clear coat and will apply the leather tomorrow

Sorry I've been absent a while, swamped with work and such.

Amazing job!  Such a wicked looking hilt!  Love all the detailed wear and tear, worth all of that extra work for sure :).  Nice to see the steps and progress phtots also!  Love seeing those, I always do them too whenever possible.

Most impressive!

Thanks for all the compliments. I personally am not happy with the black line work I did for the shattering and gouges so I am going to be sanding the entire hilt back down to bare metal (also due to a large paint chip right where the pommel and hilt meet) and re doing the entire process. I will be using a medium to dark brown for the shattering and the gouges this time to hopefully make it look a bit more realistic. At least that more realistic in my eyes. Pics to come when the Maw is finished.
