Title: Obsidian V4 doing a weird thing Post by: nathanielreykun on September 04, 2017, 09:31:09 PM Okay, so the Obsidian board in my Sentinel is, as the title would suggest, misbehaving on me. Lately, when I hit the switch to turn it on, rather than doing so, it plays the Obsidian boot sound, as though I had just put in the batteries. I've charged the batteries, used another pair of batteries, charged them, and it still keeps happening. I know other boards will have a deep sleep mode and will do that, but the Obsidian doesn't have that to my knowledge. It's not a BIG problem, as it functions normally after that, but it's a bit inconvenient. Any thoughts?
Title: Re: Obsidian V4 doing a weird thing Post by: scifidude79 on September 05, 2017, 02:43:26 PM It could be a loose wire or solder join that's coming out and then remaking a connection, causing the boot sound to play. It could also be a switch issue. I think we'll rule out bad batteries, since you checked all of that and even tried another pair of Li-Ions. Is the saber still under warranty? If it is, send UltraSabers a quick e-mail explaining the issue:
[email protected] If it's under warranty, they'll advise you and probably fix it for free. I'd advise doing that, rather than taking anything apart to look at things, as messing with the electronics will void your warranty. If it's not under warranty, you might as well take it apart, at least somewhat, to look at the wires and see if anything came loose. If you have any skill at all in wiring, it may be something that's simple to fix and will only take a few minutes. If not and you'd rather leave it up to people who do this kind of thing all the time, you can still e-mail UltraSabers and they'll fix it for a fee. Though, due to Harvey and DragonCon, they may not be quite as fast to respond as usual, so be patient if you go that route. Anyway, those are my suggestions. Good luck. However, I found out the problem and made a [good enough] solution! 😀 It turns out the speaker had somehow come loose from the battery pack, and was wobbling around in there more than it should have, confusing the board. Nothing a little hot glue wont fix. 😎 Title: Re: Obsidian V4 doing a weird thing Post by: scifidude79 on September 09, 2017, 04:12:30 AM Cool. Nothing like a little DIY fix. ;D
