Title: Where do you practice in the winter?
Post by: skribs on November 07, 2017, 10:56:55 PM
It's starting to get into the wet season where I live, so practicing outside is quickly becoming not-an-option.  Where do you practice in the winter?

Down in my basement. Have to use 24 inch blades tho, low ceiling. Don't hit the pool table!

Out in the rain, mud, and/or snow mostly. A lot of parks in my area have little gazebos as well. On occasion, in my store.

What sabers do you use out in the rain?

I'm with DC on this one. Rain or Shine, I will train. Parks are definitely a good secondary. Im in my backyard with the different groups most of the time.

Outside or in the garage. Only outside when it is not super cold.

You can practice in the snow, it can look awesome like the final saber scenes in TFA.  :)

My beater pair of dark initiates. For heavy rain, I may wrap them in silicone fix it tape to waterproof them. It just takes a strip over the button and another on the blade just above where it goes in to the saber. If you like, you can use a third to seal the pommel or an O ring. At that point, you can pretty much throw it in a pool, not that I would suggest that.

Thanks for the tip.

Wasn't there an old US demo tossing them in the pool?

In that old video, they just put the blades in the water I seem to recall. It was their blade durability video.

I personally train at my workplace. As a janitor I have the building to myself more often than not so after my work is done I'll train in the warehouse.

I might practice my balance in the swimming pool - walk with the saber both hands pointing up and out of the water.  :o
